Abstract The settlement phase is a challenging period for meropelagic octopus, as they adapt to their new life in the sea bottom after planktonic period. Their ecology and trophic interactions with surrounding fauna wild are practically unknown. To understand predatory role littoral zone, diet of recently settled Octopus vulgaris from Mediterranean sandy was studied through molecular methods. Amphipods were present all analysed stomach contents, total 20 amphipod taxa recorded prey. Jassa slatteryi Microprotopus maculatu s most commonly found species. Hydrozoans, decapod crustaceans, cephalopods bivalves followed amphipods importance. Niche breadth index assigned small octopus specialised predator, increasing diversity prey grow. Larger juveniles displayed higher number suggesting decreasing specialisation size an ontogenetic shift mainly based on richer diet. considerable arm elongation strong muscular crown development probably allow juvenile benthic develop ambush predation speculative hunting, range potential species along its adaptation benthos. Live foods such as phytoplankton and zooplankton are essential food sources in aquaculture. Due to their small size, they suitable for newly hatched larvae. Artemia rotifer commonly used live feeds aquaculture; each feed has a limited dietary value, which is unsuitable all cultured species. Whereas, copepod cladocerans species exhibit favorable characteristics that make them viable candidates of nutrients hatchery operations. jerking movements, it stimulates the feeding response fish larvae, various sizes any crustacean. Even though best due its proficient nutritional quality, cost very expensive, about half production cost. A recent study suggests use amphipods mysids alternative High value present mysids, especially proteins, lipids, fatty acids required by larvae during early development. Amphipods considered abundant aquatic ecosystem have been researchers water toxicity studies. However, culture poorly studied. There only small-scale under laboratory conditions scientific research performed. Thus, further find way improve mass can benefit aquaculture industry. This review article intended provide available information on including reproductive biology, method, enhancement, importance potential useful guideline researchers, operators, farmers.
