In this population, prevalence rates depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety disorders and substance abuse are higher than those general medical more likely to have mental health issues other students. Aims This study deals with students, a on correlations between ideation quality perceived parenting style. Gender differences were also considered. Methods A cross-sectional was conducted population an online questionnaire consisting personal data sheet for demographic anamnestic data, three self-rating scales: Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), screening depressive symptoms; Hopelessness Scale (BHS), assess ideation; Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI), investigate memory attitude one’s parents in first 16 years life. Two main affective dimensions considered by PBI: “care” (affection empathy) “protection” (intrusiveness, controlling constraint). Four different patterns styles so evidenced: Neglectful Parenting (low care/low protection), Affectionless Control care/high Optimal (high Affectionate Constraint protection). Results Overall, 671 (182 males 489 females) participated. Females, compared males, experienced distress self-injurious behaviors, while drugs or alcohol abuse. BHS BDI-II scores correlated positively PBI score negatively that “care.” associated medians scores. Conclusion confirms undergraduate student depression detectable (respectively, 50.2% 16.7% vs. 15–18% 9.2%) some specific correlate these two clinical variables. impact symptomatology pronounced females males. Abstract We compared the mental health of higher education students with that nonstudents. Moreover, we examined whether predicts their probability obtaining a degree, and extent to which affects educational attainment varies by gender. Drawing on risk resilience framework, considered five facets may be implicated in distinct ways process: positive attitude towards life, self-esteem, self-efficacy, negative affectivity, perceived stress. used data from nationally representative panel study Switzerland ( N = 2070, 42.8% male; nonstudents 3755, 45.9% male). The findings suggest overall, was relatively similar nonstudents, although exhibited slightly weaker greater levels effects different degree were mostly statistically and/or practically insignificant. However, attitudes life had substantial effect being awarded degree. Mental equally important for male female students’ attainment.

We assessed the psychometric properties of Social Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ), a 30-item questionnaire evaluating social (e.g., disruptive behaviors, bullying) and emotional problems anxiety, depression) among children aged 3.5–12 years. Children ( n = 1,950, 50.21% boys) were drawn from Quebec Longitudinal Study Child Development. Mothers reported frequency with which presented behaviors 3.5 to 8 years age, teachers 6 12 internal structure using Confirmatory Factor Analysis, reliability Cronbach’s alpha, convergent discriminant validity multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) approach. The six-factor (emotional distress, withdrawal, impulsive/hyperactive/inattentive, prosocial peer relationships difficulties) SBQ showed good fit ages Reliability estimates excellent (alphas > .7), MTMM validity. Overall, large population-based sample Further studies should assess its screening potential by investigating diagnostic information.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND COVID‐19‐disrupted schools, including shifts to virtual learning which may have impacted academic progress. This study assessed characteristics associated with changes in grades (before and during the pandemic) for different modalities US students ages 13‐19. METHODS Students (N = 2152) completed a web survey on school‐related experiences 2020‐2021 school year. County social vulnerability SARS‐CoV‐2 transmission data were merged data. Multivariable logistic regression analysis grade change was conducted student each modality, controlling community characteristics. RESULTS Greater proportions of remote/virtual (34.4%) hybrid (30.1%) reported decline compared in‐person (19.9%). Among students, odds reporting same/improved 65% lower among non‐Hispanic black 66% from other races, white students. anxiety 47% than without anxiety, substance use 40% not use. depression 62% symptoms. Remote/virtual who received school‐provided educational services also had 1.55 times grades, receiving these services. CONCLUSIONS Academic negatively COVID‐19 mode contributed. Mediation models multi-group analysis were used examine relationships variables. Results Our findings demonstrated significant relationship between depression ( r s = 0.32–0.88). Specifically, lower higher associated with levels anxiety. Additionally, individuals external tendencies reported (Cohen's d 0.61) 0.58) compared those internal tendencies. modelling showed that mediator (effect size −0.04, 95% CI −0.08 −0.01) −0.06, −0.10 −0.02). Crucially, impact varied significantly based style. Conclusions These underscore importance considering understanding addressing challenges during adolescence. This could inform development targeted interventions promote well-being However, further research needed confirm diverse populations underlying mechanisms greater detail.

ABSTRACT Adolescents' mental health and academic performance are subjects of paramount interest. Previous studies have revealed a strong association between these constructs during school years. However, there is little evidence about the dual‐factor model health, which includes combination psychological well‐being distress indicators, no clear consensus on possible differences by sex. Therefore, aims this study were to analyze sex in sample secondary students. The was formed total 265 adolescents (126 females) aged 13.9 ± 0.3 years old, from DADOS study. Mental status self‐reported through Behavior Assessment System for Children Adolescents. Academic assessed grades Test Educational Ability. findings showed that emotional symptoms index negatively associated with grades. Psychological positively grades, while except anxiety. Childhood cognitively stimulating activities have been associated with higher cognitive function in late life. Whether early or childhood are more salient, and whether specific domains is unknown. Participants retrospectively reported at ages 6, 12, 18 years. 4,198 participants were aged 55 to 77 years testing. Six tasks measured overall function, processing speed, visual short-term memory, attention, control, episodic working perception, vocabulary, verbal reasoning. Cognitively across scores (highest versus lowest quartile, beta = 0.18 SD, 95% CI 0.12, 0.23). In models adjusted for each age, only age cognition. The association of was strongly positive the levels activities, little middle high activities. A test crystalized intelligence most activities; tests assessing sustained attention least associated. If associations we found causal, increasing teen among those very few may benefit life health.
