Cyanobacteria
harmful
algal
blooms
produce
many
toxic
secondary
metabolites
called
cyanotoxins.
The
most
studied
group
of
cyanotoxins
are
microcystins
(MC),
with
over
300
congeners
reported.
MC-LR
is
the
congener
because
its
abundance
and
toxicity.
Recent
toxicology
studies
suggest
that
more
hydrophobic
MC
such
as
MC-LA,
MC-LF,
MC-LW
may
be
less
abundant
but
up
to
seven
times
than
MC-LR,
whereas,
MC-RR's
toxicity
only
one-fifth
MC-LR.
Hence,
understanding
environmental
stressors
change
profile
critical
assessing
negative
impact
on
human
health.
A
two-year
field
experimental
study
investigated
seasonal
spatial
changes
profiles
in
western
basin
Lake
Erie.
Both
showed
nitrogen
enrichment
favored
production
nitrogen-rich
MC-RR
(C49H75N13O12).
depletion
low-nitrogen
MC-LA
(C46H67N7O12).

accounted
for
∼30%

total
concentration
was
stable
across
concentrations.
Using
relative
concentrations
each
congener,
both

stations
exceeding
drinking
water
standards.
This
demonstrated
toxic,
high
dominated
under
nitrogen-replete
conditions
season,
whereas
nitrogen-limited
later
season.

Microplastics
(MPs)
contaminate
the
global
marine
and
terrestrial
ecosystems.
This
environmental
contamination
can
enter
food
chain,
with
MPs
found
in
drinking
water,
fishery
products
other
categories.
Consequently,
ingestion
is
considered
main
route
of
human
exposure
to
MPs.
Concerns
exist
on
potential
act
as
vectors
for
pathogenic
bacteria,
possibly
threatening
microbial
safety.
Starting
from
current
evidence
foodborne
pathogens
associated
MPs,
we
review
state
knowledge
putative
role
enhancing
harmful
bacterial
traits
transporting
them
humans.
Finally,
focus
simultaneous
uptake
gut.
Overall,
identify
major
gaps,
both
mechanisms
possible
health
outcomes.
The
scarce
inconclusive
results
regarding
effect
virulence
evolution,
together
insufficient
about
attachment
toxins
highlight
need
further
studies.
We
conclude
that
biofilm-coated
foodstuffs
may
pose
several
risks
safety,
but
research
will
be
essential
determine
extent
their
health.

cyanobacterial

(CyanoHABs)
impact
lakes,
estuaries,

freshwater
reservoirs
worldwide.
The
duration,
severity,
spread
of
CyanoHABs
have
markedly
increased
over
the
past
decades
will
likely
continue
to
increase.
This
article
addresses
universal
phenomena
occurring
in
many
ecosystems
Based
on
analysis
ecophysiological
traits
bloom-forming
cyanobacteria
their
interactions
with
environmental
processes,
we
summarize
decipher
driving
forces
leading
initiation,
outbreak,
persistence
blooms.
Due
coupling
effects
eutrophication,
rising
CO
2
levels
global
warming,
a
multidisciplinary
joint
research
approach
is
critical
for
better
understanding
CyanoHAB
phenomenon
its
prediction,
remediation,
prevention.
There
an
urgent
need
evaluate
guide
proper
use
bloom
control
techniques
at
large
scales,
using
science-based
environmentally
friendly
approaches.
