Hermetia illucens has received a lot of attention as its larval stage can grow on organic substrates, even those that are decomposing. Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, characterized by uncontrolled cell growth and multiple mutations. Chemotherapy often associated with harmful side effects, cancer cells may become resistant through various mechanisms. New approaches, which are able to address both the toxicity resistance issues chemotherapy, primary importance in research. The black soldier fly ( Hermetia illucens ) is a saprophagous insect known for bioconverting organic waste, potentially offering environmental benefits, such as contributing to waste reduction and nutrient cycling. performance of larvae varies significantly with factors substrate moisture, larval density, scale production. Three experiments were conducted using mix spent mushroom (SMS) chicken feed (CF). In the first experiment, 250 reared on 100 g dry matter (DM) at moisture levels 65–75%. Results showed that average individual weight, total biomass, conversion ratio (FCR) improved increased moisture. second 300 350 larvae/box tested 70% 75% highest fresh weight (158.6 mg) was observed larvae, while biomass achieved larvae. Finally, different scales (10–2,500 25–6,500 larvae) similar feeding rate. recorded scale, no clear correlation between scale. However, 50 (33.2%). In the present study, different methodologies with potential scalability and environmental friendliness, such as winterization, supercritical fluid extraction, multistage distillation, were evaluated for lauric acid concentration. all cases, to facilitate fractionation, transformation of triacylglycerols into free fatty acids or ethyl esters was required a previous step. For winterization experimental assays, amount type solvent studied, resulting in product containing ~65% recovery ~81% using 1:10 oil-to-solvent ratio hexane. On other hand, extraction carbon dioxide counter current packed column at 55 °C, 115 bar, 70 g CO2/min, resulted composed ~80% ester ~85%. Finally, flash distillation analysed process simulation (Aspen Plus V14), demonstrating that this methodology can achieve 80% high purity (lauric acid: 96.7%; laurate: 97.4%), but vacuum is prevent thermal degradation 0.2 mbar; 1.1 mbar). Overall, employed proved highly efficient concentrating acid, yielding commercial interest added value.

Globally, the yearly disposal of 1.3 billion tonnes food raises environmental and public health concerns. Black soldier fly (BSF) larvae present a sustainable solution, converting organic waste into nutrient-rich biomass. The extracted oil from BSF larvae, rich in fatty acids (FA), offers an eco-friendly alternative for cosmetic industry. In this study, sourced Portuguese company were fed olive pomace, by-product production. lipidic sample revealed composition high oleic acid, valuable cosmetics. Investigating biological activity lipid extractions with pomace is novel approach. Notably, n-hexane ultrasound-assisted extraction method demonstrated potent antioxidant properties, some extracts displayed antimicrobial activity. Five non-cytotoxic extracts; three no relevant (IC50 236 to >400 μg/mL). These findings highlight as environmentally friendly source acids, offering promising alternatives diverse applications.
