This study aims to retrospectively assess the potential risk of malignant transformation in patients with diagnosed oral lichen planus (OLP) between 2015 and 2022, evaluate influence different factors. The department's database medical records from 2022 were searched for a confirmed diagnosis OLP based on both clinical histological parameters. A total 100 (59 females 41 males) found mean age 64.03 years. Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a potentially life-threatening blistering disorder characterized by autoantibodies directed against cell-cell adhesion molecules that serves as an excellent model to study human autoimmune development. Numerous studies have identified specific Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) genes, in particular DRB1*0402 and DQB1*0503, confer disease risk. Although HLA required, it not sufficient for the initiation of disease. As with all diseases, etio-pathogenesis PV complex, meaning multifactorial. Susceptibility polygenic, search non-HLA disease-linked genes continues. Moreover, twin across conditions indicate non-genetic environmental lifestyle factors, which can be collectively grouped under term “exposome”, are also major contributors The literature presents evidence potential role multiple triggers such medications, infections, stress, diet, immunizations, sleep influence etiology, pathophysiology, prognosis PV. However, clear understanding degree factors impact lacking. In this investigation, we comprehensively review elements listed above consider strength these factors. overall goals work provide greater insights into susceptibility, development course ultimately help better guide clinicians inform patients management

A BSTRACT Lichen planus, an autoimmune inflammatory condition, has been linked to medications, vaccinations, and infections. Several clinical studies have shown that majority of vaccines trigger a Th1 response, which raises the blood levels IL-2, TNF & IFN, may be development lichen planus. It recently documented happen with mRNA-based COVID-19 especially Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. We present case series planus appeared after receiving COVISHIELD vaccine from Oxford-AstraZeneca. In order rule out any further potential triggers, like recent infections, prior drug use, smoking, dental treatments, etc., thorough history was collected in each instance. Skin biopsies were used confirm case’s diagnosis. nearly all cases, skin revealed typical dermatopathological features

Annular atrophic lichen planus (AALP) is a chronic subtype of that classically does not respond to treatment with topical steroids. An inflammatory reaction in the dermal infiltrate may play role development AALP, but exact pathogenesis remains unclear. We present case 54-year-old-female lesions on her trunk and extremities developed following vaccination. Her failed response warranted further workup for which was confirmed around 1 year after initiation. Although vaccine-induced common, it has been reported various cases. rare AALP vaccination then provide an in-depth discussion factors associated condition current response.

Objective The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted various health conditions. Emerging evidence suggests that may trigger or exacerbate oral and maxillofacial conditions, yet data from Iraq the broader Middle East remain limited. This retrospective cohort study, conducted at Laboratory of Oral Pathology, College Dentistry, University Baghdad, explores potential links between infection disorders. Methods was a study using Baghdad. Cases were divided into pre-COVID-19 post-COVID-19 periods. Chi-square tests assessed differences in pathologies incidence, while logistic regression analyzed associations with status corticosteroid use. Results Mucormycosis cases demonstrated significant increase 3 (pre-COVID-19) to 23 (post-COVID-19), 65.22% patients testing COVID-19-positive. A mucormycosis severity observed after (χ² = 14.24, p 0.0026). Logistic identified age (coefficient 0.8738) as having association severe mucormycosis, 0.1272) exerted lesser effect. Sjögren's syndrome increased 15 25 cases, model area under curve 0.8, indicating substantial ability distinguish symptom changes pre- vs. post-COVID-19. Conclusion findings suggest considerably incidence syndrome. Older positivity be key drivers whereas appeared symptoms. These results underscore importance vigilant monitoring targeted therapeutic strategies for managing conditions during viral pandemics.

ABSTRACT Background New‐onset lichen planus (LP) development following COVID‐19 infection/vaccination is reported. Since case series cannot be used to study exposure–outcome associations, we designed this matched case–control investigate whether COVID‐19‐related events and de novo LP are associated. Methods Patients with histologically confirmed LP, newly diagnosed at the National Research Center of Dermato‐Venereology Moscow (September 2020–December 2022), were considered. Sex/age/ethnicity‐matched controls attending same in period for consultations on conditions unrelated selected. Cases/controls known trigger factors excluded. were: symptomatic (PCR‐confirmed), vaccination (viral vector vaccine) occurred ≤ 1 month before visit Center. The association between was assessed conditional (Mantel–Haenszel method) unconditional (logistic regression analysis adjusted sex, age, smoking) analyses. Subgroup analysis, infection treated separately, sensitivity another group patients suspected not histologically, also made. Results Fifty‐five pairs Mean age (51 years), sex (56.4% females) ethnicity (100% whites) distributions both groups. Conditional odds ratios resulted 7.50 (95% Confidence Interval – 95CI , 1.72–32.80), 4.45 ( 1.63–12.15), respectively p < 0.05). while corroborated results primary analysis. Conclusions This observational study, reporting a strong significant de‐novo suggests that events, especially infection, could act as factors.

In this narrative review, we aimed to overview the interplay between lichen planus (LP) and thyroid conditions (TCs) from a dual perspective (dermatologic endocrine), since current gap in understanding LP-TC connections is found so far topic still matter of debate. We searched PubMed Inception October 2023 by using key terms “lichen planus” “thyroid”, (alternatively, “endocrine” or “hormone”). included original clinical studies humans according three sections: LP TC dysfunction, autoimmunity, neoplasia. Six confirmed an association dysfunction (exclusively hypothyroidism) LP/OL (oral LP); note, only one study addressed cutaneous LP. The sample size LP/OLP groups varied 12–14 1500 individuals. Hypothyroidism prevalence OLP was 30–50%. A higher rate levothyroxine replacement identified among patients, at 10% versus 2.5% controls. highest OR (odd ratio) treated hypothyroidism amid 2.99 (p < 0.005). be associated with milder phenotype two studies. single cohort revealed similar non-LP. Non-confirmatory (only on OLP, not LP) five cohorts: controls, showed that subjects actually had lower controls (1% 4%). Positive autoimmunity eight studies; cohorts varied, for instance, 619 persons 76, 92, 105, 108, 192, 247, 585 patients (a total 1405) respectively; notably, largest control group 10,441 Four clusters approaches respect were found: analysis HT/ATD (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis/autoimmune diseases) prevalence; considerations over specific antibody levels; sex-related features females are more prone autoimmunity; associations (if any) aspects LP/OLP. HT statistically significantly higher, as follows: 19% 5%; 12% 6%; 20% 9.8%. addressing ATDs. One did confirm correlation OLP-associated elements (and severity) values against thyroid, another positive TPOAb (anti-thyroperoxidase antibodies) often erosive than non-erosive (68% 33%). Just reverse, (9% 15%). Five case-control issue prior diagnosed (no identified); them treatment (at 8.9%, 9.7%, 10.6%) conclusion, regard LP/OLP-TC, note several main practical points multidisciplinary practitioners: rather requires awareness; when it comes type mostly, should expected; female ATDs; potential ratio taking found, thus good collaboration endocrinology team mandatory; far, individuals have been risk nodules/cancer.
