Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a very common gynaecologic condition affecting women of reproductive age worldwide. BV characterized by depletion lactic acid-producing Lactobacillus species and an increase in strict facultative anaerobic bacteria that develop polymicrobial biofilm on the vaginal epithelium. Despite multiple decades research, etiology this infection still not clear. However, some BV-associated (BVAB) may play key role development infection, namely Gardnerella species, Prevotella bivia, Fannyhessea vaginae. In work, we aimed to characterize growth these three rich medium simulating tract secretions (mGTS). We first assessed planktonic New York City (NYCIII) mGTS observed showed distinct capacities grow two media. Surprisingly, despite ability all single-species NYCIII, triple-species consortium P. bivia was able its concentration after 48 h, as qPCR. Furthermore, when using more restrictive media, G. vaginalis only BVAB consortia. Interestingly, found NYCIII influenced cell-free supernatant (CFS) F. vaginae CFS mGTS. This antimicrobial activity appears happen due acidification Single- biofilms were then formed, each further quantified While had high capacity form both favored cultured Differences also structure formed confocal laser scanning microscopy. conclusion, while essential for incorporation other biofilm.

Abstract Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginal discharge and often associated with other health consequences mainly in pregnant women. BV described by an imbalance microbiota where strictly facultative anaerobic bacteria outgrow lactic acid‐ hydrogen peroxide‐producing Lactobacillus species. The species involved are capable to grow form a polymicrobial biofilm epithelium. treatment usually performed using broad‐spectrum antibiotics, including metronidazole clindamycin. However, these conventional treatments high recurrence rates. may have important role on outcome accounted as one factors for failure. Other possible reasons failure include presence resistant antibiotics or chance reinfection after treatment. Therefore, novel strategies increase rates been studied namely use probiotics prebiotics, acidifying agents, antiseptics, plant‐based products, transplantation, phage endolysins. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) represents a condition in which the normal protective Lactobacilli, especially those that produce H2O2, are replaced by high quantities of facultative anaerobes, leading to gynecologic and obstetric post-operative complications. BV is an important cause gynecological adverse sequelae it could lead increased risk contracting sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea, genital herpes, Chlamydia, Trichomonas, human immunodeficiency virus. Herein, we reviewed bacterial its association with pelvic infections. In Obstetrics, has been associated preterm delivery, first-trimester miscarriage women undergoing vitro fertilization, premature rupture membranes, chorioamnionitis, amniotic fluid infections, postpartum postabortal endomyometritis well inflammatory disease (PID). gynecology, increases post-hysterectomy vaginal cuff cellulitis, abscess, PID. often asymptomatic, can resolve spontaneously, relapses or without treatment. The American College Obstetricians Gynecologists recommends testing for having delivery. Women symptoms should be evaluated treated. surgeries must treated reduce frequency Metronidazole clindamycin mainstays therapy. Currently, there no consensus on pre-surgery screening BV; decisions made case-by-case basis.

Abstract Bacterial vaginosis (BV), a dysbiosis of the vaginal microbiome, affects approximately 29 percent women worldwide (up to 50% in some regions) and is associated with several adverse health outcomes including preterm birth increased incidence sexually transmitted infection (STI). BV-associated bacteria, such as Gardnerella vaginalis Prevotella timonensis, damage mucosa through activity sialidase enzymes that remodel epithelial glycocalyx degrade mucin glycoproteins. This creates an inflammatory environment which likely contributes outcomes. However, whether glycolytic also sperm during their transit reproductive tract has not yet been determined. Here, we show sialidase-mediated remodeling human increases susceptibility within female tract. In particular, report desialylated demonstrate complement lysis agglutination, well decreased cervical mucus. Our results mechanism by sialidases may affect survival function potentially contribute infertility. Significance statement Sperm surface glycans are crucial for immune processes We found derived from bacteria resulting aberrant mucus trapping, complement-mediated cytolysis sperm. BACKGROUND. Bacterial vaginosis is a common infectious non-inflammatory vaginal disease that increases the likelihood of contracting sexually transmitted infections, which has negative impact on perinatal outcomes and generally reduces quality life. Given low long-term efficacy antibiotic therapy, as well high recurrence rate side effects associated with use, there need to find alternative approaches its treatment. AIM. To evaluate tolerability comprehensive two-stage treatment BV including clindamycin or dequalinium chloride lactic acid in women reproductive age. METHODS. An open randomized clinical study was carried out, involved 54 aged 18 45 years diagnosis bacterial confirmed by Amsel's criteria. The participants were randomly assigned into three groups: 17 from first group used acid, 20 second combination third acid. Treatment evaluated after 14 days using Three months completion treatment, complaints assessed pH measured. RESULTS. During study, it noted two weeks whitish-gray discharge ceased all groups. In group, where only used, continued patients. Positive dynamics change secretions observed groups both end most noticeable effect together persisted group. CONCLUSION. conducted effectiveness However, demonstrated more stable results short long term, making this method non-antibacterial therapy preferable context growing problem resistance.
