Abstract Objective To develop an expert consensus statement (ECS) on the management of dysphagia in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients to address controversies offer opportunities for quality improvement. Dysphagia HNC was defined as swallowing impairment with cancers nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, nasopharynx, oral oropharynx, larynx, or hypopharynx. Methods Development group members expertise followed established guidelines developing ECS. A professional search strategist systematically reviewed literature, best available evidence used compose statements targeted at providers managing adult populations. The development prioritized topics where there significant practice variation that would improve patient care if were possible. Results identified 60 candidate statements, based 75 initial proposed questions, focused addressing following high yield topics: (1) risk factors, (2) screening, (3) evaluation, (4) prevention, (5) interventions, (6) surveillance. After 2 iterations Delphi survey removal duplicative 48 met standardized definition consensus; 12 designated no consensus. Conclusion Expert achieved pertaining intervention, surveillance patients. Clinicians can use these care, inform policy protocols, appreciate areas is Future research, ideally randomized controlled trials, warranted additional related

Abstract Background Radiation‐induced dysphagia and restricted mouth opening are common problems among patients with head neck cancer. The aim of the present randomized controlled trial was to determine if an exercise protocol could prevent swallowing impairment. Methods Eighty‐nine participants were randomly assigned either active group performing preventive exercises ( n = 45) or a control 44). Outcome measures collected at baseline before radiotherapy approximately 1‐month post‐treatment. Primary endpoints changes in function according Penetration Aspiration Scale ability measured millimeters. Intention‐to‐treat analysis used. Results Swallowing deteriorated both groups, no statistically significant positive effect detected follow‐up. Among who completed >75% exercises, there trend toward better outcomes. Conclusions Preventive did not improve short‐term after radiotherapy.

Oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) is an underdiagnosed medical condition with a high prevalence in populations such as patients frailty, neurological disease, or head and neck pathology. Potential barriers to its diagnosis include lack of (or low) awareness the existence severity condition, hidden nature within 'normal ageing' process, clinical limitations, socioeconomic reasons. Consequently, effective treatment not systematically offered timely manner, complications, dehydration respiratory infections aspiration pneumonia, can arise. To overcome this issue, early use screening questionnaires identify people at risk swallowing disorders represents cornerstone preventive medicine. Several tools have been created but few are widely used practice. The Eating Assessment Tool-10 (EAT-10) was developed quick, easy-to-understand, self-administered tool for OD.

Abstract Oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) is a high impact morbidity in head-and-neck cancer (HNC) patients. A wide variety of instruments are developed to screen for affective symptoms and OD. The current paper aims systematically review appraise the literature obtain insight into prevalence, strength, causal direction relationship between OD HNC This was conducted accordance with PRISMA statement. systematic search performed using PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane, Embase. Abstract Background Oro‐pharyngeal pathophysiology, including upper esophageal sphincter (UES) and pharyngeal disorders, can be assessed by high‐resolution manometry impedance (P‐HRM‐I). We aimed to establish methodology diagnose disorders utilizing P‐HRM‐I, hypothesizing that the objective measures could used disordered deglutition evidenced greater aspiration scores. Methods Patients ( n = 509, 18–91 years) were compared controls 120, 20–94 years). Variables measuring UES relaxation, opening extent, intrabolus pressure, contractile strength derived for 10 ml liquid swallows. Three associated pressurization patterns, which may indicative of obstructed flow, characterized: pan‐pressurization (Type 1), distal compartmentalized 2), transient 3). Head and neck cancers (HNC) are aggressive, difficult-to-treat tumors that can be caused by genetic factors but mainly lifestyle or infection the human papillomavirus. As sixth most common malignancy, it presents a formidable therapeutic challenge with limited modalities. Curcumin, natural polyphenol, is appearing as promising multitarget anticancer antimetastatic agent. Numerous studies have shown curcumin its derivatives potential to affect signaling pathways (NF-κB, JAK/STAT, EGFR) molecular mechanisms crucial for growth migration of head tumors. Furthermore, ability interact tumor microenvironment trigger immune system may significantly influence organism's response tumor. Combining conventional therapies such chemotherapy radiotherapy improve efficacy treatment reduce side effects treatment, thereby increasing potential. This review comprehensive overview discusses both benefits limitations in context biology, an emphasis on HNC. also includes possibilities limiting properties terms development new derivatives, formulations, combinations type therapy HNC subsequent use clinical practice.
