The rapid depletion of fossil fuel reserves and rising greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions have necessitated research into low-cost renewable energy sources, with a focus on algal-derived biofuels. Biodiesel, sustainable alternative fuel, can be derived from variety biological sources Microalgae-based biodiesel production offers an innovative method generating energy. By utilizing advanced cultivation techniques, such as photobioreactors open pond systems, microalgae grown efficiently in large quantities. Furthermore, various methods, lipid extraction transesterification, are employed to convert the lipid-rich biomass biodiesel. Porphyridium aerugineum is a unicellular freshwater red microalga that synthesizes and secretes into the culture medium an extracellular polysaccharide (EPS). In this study, algal growth production, as well antioxidant capacity antitumor effect of EPS (PaEPS), were investigated. Cultivation microalgae was carried out in photobioreactor under controlled conditions. Algal amount monitored daily. The accumulated extracted lyophilized. At end cultivation, concentration microalgal biomass PaEPS reached 3.3 1.2 g L−1, respectively. To examine PaEPS, FRAP ABTS assays performed. cytotoxic activity evaluated on tumor cell lines MCF-7 (breast cancer) HeLa (cervical adenocarcinoma) BJ (a non-tumor human skin fibroblast line), using MTT assay. results obtained indicated P. exhibited high radical-scavenging reaching up to 55%. best expressed cells treated for 72 h with 1000 µg/mL where proliferation inhibited by more than 70%. Importantly, treatments did not significantly affect viability cells. These findings promote biotechnological production reveal its potential anticancer agent future applications.
