Cytokines are critical role in the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases. Meteorin-like (Metrnl), a protein released oral mucosa, is novel cytokine associated with various inflammatory This study aimed to evaluate levels salivary and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), interleukin - 1 beta (IL-1β), 10 (IL-10), Metrnl disease. It was formed three groups 20 individuals each: healthy, gingivitis, periodontitis (Stage III, Grades A B) groups. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method measured IL-1β, IL-10, GCF samples. Clinical measurement including probing pocket depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), plaque index (PI), (GI) percentage bleeding on (%BOP); biochemical parameters were evaluated using statistical analysis. Salivary concentrations total amount IL-1β significantly higher disease (p < 0.001). There no significant difference among either or IL-10 > 0.05). lower group = 0.002). had negative correlations %BOP, PD, CAL 0.03). receiver operating characteristics curve showed: area under (AUC) 0.731 for discriminate from health gingivitis. Based findings this study, Metrnl, as an immunoregulatory cytokine, may have important relationship periodontitis. Additional studies needed fully elucidate functional effect Background In knock-out experimental studies, it has been reported that acts inflammation-related cytokine. relating diseases support idea play variety Although abundantly secreted authors' knowledge there evaluating gingivitis periodontitis, fluids, such saliva, examined presence different can be useful distinguishing destruction health.

ABSTRACT Objective To identify host markers with optimal diagnostic performance for clinical implementation in the diagnosis of periodontal diseases and prediction future disease progression and/or resolution. Material Methods Cross‐sectional prospective studies ≥ 20 participants per group, reporting accuracy (e.g., area under curve [AUC]) (focused question 1 [FQ1]), periodontitis progression/relapse (FQ2) or resolution (FQ3) were searched three electronic databases. Meta‐analyses estimating (DA) individual grouped salivary gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) independently performed whenever two more identified. Results Sixty‐one eligible identified, which 13 included meta‐analyses FQ1 (discrimination between health periodontitis). Matrix metalloproteinase‐8 (MMP‐8) was most reported biomarker both saliva GCF, comparable AUC (0.70–0.90), sensitivity (0.49–0.84) specificity (0.62–0.79) sample types. Cytokines had good ability discrimination periodontitis/gingivitis versus health, although they substantially less accurate gingivitis. Combinations cytokines MMPs tended to increase overall but without significant improvement case discrimination. Bone best performing group (AUC = 0.91) when compared 0.86) 0.77). GCF microRNAs (MiRs) a singly meta‐analysed biomarkers demonstrating 0.79. Conclusion Reported on exhibit serious limitations regarding validation standards, being main cause lack progress classification. Disease‐specific such as bone showed better (from limited number studies) MMPs.

ABSTRACT Monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP‐1) is involved in monocyte chemotaxis, endothelial activation and regulation of leukocyte function biological activities that promote inflammation, such as periodontitis. A systematic review meta‐analysis was conducted with the primary objective investigating roles MCP‐1 gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) subjects chronic periodontitis compared to periodontally healthy subjects. The study protocol adhered PRISMA guidelines. Digital searches were carried out across several databases, including PubMed, Dentistry & Oral Science Source, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web Google Scholar. quality studies evaluated using JBI tool for cross‐sectional clinical trials. To assess concentration GCF exposure group versus control group, a employing random‐effects model. search strategy yielded 1694 articles, 14 meeting inclusion criteria 10 articles subjected quantitative analysis. total 497 examined, comprising 298 cases 199 controls. indicated significant increase levels individuals (GCF: SMD = 20.29, 95% CI: 10.33–30.25, Z 3.992, p 0.001*). are elevated controls, suggesting its potential future use diagnostic settings.

Background/Objectives: Periodontitis, a prevalent chronic inflammatory disease affecting tooth-supporting structures, has been increasingly linked to systemic conditions such as diabetes mellitus (DM) and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). This study aimed evaluate the periodontal status levels of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) galectin-3 (Gal-3) in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) patients with periodontitis, heart failure (HF), diabetes, exploring their potential biomarkers for association. Methods: A cross-sectional was conducted on 88 categorized into four groups: periodontally systemically healthy (control, C); periodontitis (P); HF (P+HF); HF, (P+HF+D). Periodontal assessed using probing pocket depth (PPD) Gingival Index (GI). GCF samples were collected analyzed DPP-4 Gal-3 ELISA. Statistical analyses performed assess differences between groups correlations. Results: Results indicated significantly higher all test compared controls (p < 0.0001), highest P+HF+D group. Similarly, elevated patients, particularly those there no significant difference P+HF groups. No observed smokers non-smokers regarding these markers. Positive correlations found parameters immunological markers Conclusions: The findings suggest that may serve association being more upregulated failure.
