Sunlight-driven photocatalysis, which can produce clean fuels and mitigate pollutant degradation, has received extensive research attention due to its potential for addressing both energy shortages environmental crises. Bismuth (Bi)-based photocatalysts with broad spectrum solar-light absorption tunable structures, exhibit promising applications in solar-driven photocatalysis. Oxygen vacancy (OV) engineering is a widely recognized strategy that shows great accelerating charge separation small molecule activation. Based on OV engineering, this review focuses Bi-based provides comprehensive overview including synthetic methods, regulation strategies, photocatalytic field. The methods of OVs (BPOVs) are classified into hydrothermal, solvothermal, UV light reduction, calcination, chemical etching, mechanical based different reaction types, provide the possibility structural BPOVs, dimensional regulation, creation, elemental doping, heterojunction fabrication. Furthermore, also highlights CO2 N2 fixation, H2 generation, O2 evolution, cancer therapy, bacteria inactivation. Finally, conclusion prospects toward future development BPOVs presented.
