Abstract The tomato leafminer (Tuta Absoluta) is an important pest of crops which have features like; high reproductive potential, Invasive species are major threats to agronomic and natural ecosystems. Based on the pathogenicity strains, only two isolates effectively show larvicidal activity. native isolate was obtained from soil samples, collected Rajgarh, Hamachi Pradesh, India. The South American tomato pinworm Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) has aggressively invaded the African continent. Since its first detection in North Africa Morocco and Tunisia 2008, it successfully entire southern, eastern western Africa, where been on offensive, causing significant damage to Solanaceous food crops. While control of this prolific invader is primarily based conventional synthetic pesticides, form consistently losing societal approval owing (1) pesticide resistance development consequential loss field efficacy; (2) growing public health concerns; (3) environmental contamination biological diversity associated ecological services; (4) unsustainable costs, particularly for resource-poor farmers. As such, more ecologically sound pest management strategies, e.g., use natural substances (NSs), may offer a sustainable approach tackling offensive. A systematic literature search through digital libraries online databases (JSTOR, PubMed, Web Science, SCOPUS Google Scholar) was conducted using predetermined keywords T. absoluta, pinworm. We explain invasion citing mechanisms facilitating exploring potential diverse agents, low-risk substances. Specifically, we explore how botanicals, entomopathogens, semiochemicals, predators, parasitoids, host plant resistance, sterile insect technique others have spatially employed discuss these agents landscapes integrated approaches. NSs as assets general control, some liabilities barriers adoption systems from legislative, economic, social standpoint.

Abstract The capacity to assess invasion risk from potential crop pests before of new regions globally would be invaluable, but this requires the ability predict accurately their geographic range and relative abundance in novel areas. This may unachievable using de facto standard correlative methods as shown for South American tomato pinworm Tuta absoluta , a serious insect pest native America. Its global invasive was not identified until after rapid Europe, followed by Africa parts Asia where it has become major food security problem on solanaceous crops. Early prospective assessment its is possible physiologically based demographic modeling that have knowledge gaps T. biology at low temperatures. Physiologically models (PBDMs) realistically capture weather-driven mechanistic way allowing evaluation areas climes including climate change. PBDMs explain biological bases distribution, are generally applicable species any taxa, limited terrestrial ecosystems, hence can extended support ecological aquatic ecosystems. address lack unified general assessing managing becoming more predictive science.

This study evaluated the effects of ZnO and green-synthesized nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) from Sargassum ilicifolium extract on biochemical interactions between tomato leaves destructive pest Tuta absoluta. The average size stability ZnO-NPs were characterized using DLS, X-RD, FE-SEM. Peaks in FT-IR spectrum algae ZnO-NPs, indicated presence carboxyl groups, amines, alkynes alcohols. Treated exhibited increased total chlorophyll anthocyanin contents, particularly at 100 50 ppm, compared to control. A significant increase flavonoid content was observed while phenolic also enhanced ppm. In T. absoluta larvae, exposure ppm led a reduction α-amylase, protease, protein, TAG levels, alongside catalase activity. Additionally, G6PD ALT activities decreased Lactate, MDA, RSSR/RSH Furthermore, elevated larval aldolase activity, AST γ-GT declined. These findings indicate that enhance defense mechanisms mitigate damage, supporting their potential use integrated management strategies against

Miridae (Hemiptera) of the tribe Dicyphini are important zoophytophagous predators use to control pest arthropods in vegetable crops. However, risk that their herbivory may cause economic damage could hinder application as useful biocontrol agents and limit likelihood they would meet regulatory requirements for importation. We conducted field cage studies assess predation capacity tomato plant three mirid species established south USA, a known agent (Nesidiocoris tenuis), two native (Macrolophus praeclarus Engytatus modestus). All significantly reduced number whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci) on plants compared without mirids. More damage, evaluated necrotic rings, was observed with E. modestus N. tenuis M. praeclarus. In our experiments included sesame (Sesamum indicum) plants, numbers increased despite low prey, thus showing benefit plant-feeding habit these predators. USA’s mirids therefore prove be immediately available biological management present future pests.

Abstract The predatory mirid Macrolophus praeclarus is widely distributed throughout the Americas, and reported to prey upon several horticultural pest species. However, little known about its biology, thermal requirements, crop odour preferences, phytophagy, capability induce defensive responses in plants. When five temperatures studied (20, 25, 30, 33 35°C) were tested Ephestia kuehniella was used as prey, developmental time from egg adult on tomato, longest at 20°C (56.3 d) shortest 33°C (22.7 d). ability of nymphs develop adults decreased temperature increased, with highest number reaching stage (78.0%) lowest 35°C (0%). lower upper thresholds estimated 11.2° 35.3°C, respectively. maximum rate occurred 31.7°C constant 454.0 ± 8.1 degree days. predation E. kuehniell a eggs obtained 30°C. In Y-tube olfactory choice tests, M. selected sweet pepper eggplant odours more frequently than no plant control treatment. feeding did not damage tomato plants compared another zoophytophagous mirid, Nesidiocoris tenuis , which caused necrotic rings. phytophagy induced through upregulation jasmonic acid metabolic pathway. implications findings for using biological programmes Americas are discussed.
