Abstract. Accurately measuring the emissions of monoterpenes (MTs) and sesquiterpenes (SQTs) using dynamic chambers requires careful consideration their adsorptive reactive losses, which are often overlooked difficult to assess in situ. This study evaluated effectiveness deuterated surrogates, α-pinene-d3 β-caryophyllene-d2, tracing these losses a chamber system. Using standard gas mixtures 10 MTs SQTs, we characterized across varying concentrations, temperatures, humidity levels, as well with ozone. Results indicated that were significantly influenced by concentration temperature, species-specific variations particularly under low concentrations while relative had negligible impact. Reactive ozone exhibited substantial variability. Key (α-pinene, β-pinene, 3-carene, limonene, 1,8-cineole) SQTs (β-caryophyllene α-humulene) demonstrated consistent behaviors respective surrogates suggesting effective for correcting situ emission measurements chambers. However, due varied additional recommended, selected according O3 reactivities, cover broader range loss correction. A strong correlation between capacity reactivity was observed, underscoring need carefully address highly during measurements. also emphasizes ozone-free circulating air should be used accurately such β-caryophyllene α-humulene, especially when correction methods unavailable.

The aim of this research work is to analyze the chemistry and diversity forest VOCs (volatile organic compounds) outline their evidence-based effects on health. This was designed as a narrative overview scientific literature. Inhaling like limonene pinene can result in useful antioxidant anti-inflammatory airways, pharmacological activity some terpenes absorbed through inhalation may be also beneficial promote brain functions by decreasing mental fatigue, inducing relaxation, improving cognitive performance mood. tree composition markedly influence concentration specific air, which exhibits cyclic diurnal variations. Moreover, psychological physiological visiting cannot solely attributed VOC but are due global integrated stimulation five senses, induced all characteristics natural environment, with visual component probably playing fundamental role overall effect. Globally, these findings have implications for individual wellbeing, public health, landscape design. Further clinical environmental studies advised, since majority existing evidence derived from laboratory findings.

Abstract Aerosols produced from the oxidation of volatile/semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs/SVOCs), known as secondary aerosol (SOA), account for a significant fraction atmospheric airborne particles. This paper reviews current understanding SOA formation gas-phase with focus on anthropogenic precursors and their reaction products simulation chamber studies. The review summarises major derived main groups (e.g., alkanes, aromatics), yields factors controlling formation. We highlight that lab-derived yield depends strongly upon, not only concentrations oxidants but also conditions.

ABSTRACT In their environment, plants are exposed to a multitude of abiotic and biotic stresses that differ in intensity, duration severity. Abstract Biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) play important roles at cellular, foliar, ecosystem and atmospheric levels. The Amazonian rainforest represents one of the major global sources BVOCs, so its study is essential for understanding BVOC dynamics. It also provides insights into role such large biodiverse forest in regional chemistry climate. We review current information on BVOCs identify future research priorities exploring biogenic emissions drivers, ecological interactions, impacts, depositional processes modifications to dynamics due changes climate land cover. A feedback loop between trends land‐use Amazonia then constructed. Satellite observations model simulation time series demonstrate validity proposed showing a combined effect change deforestation emission Amazonia. decreasing trend isoprene during wet season, most likely biomass loss, an increasing sesquiterpene ratio dry season suggest temperature stress‐induced change.

Abstract Although it is an integral part of global change, most the research addressing effects climate change on forests have overlooked role environmental pollution. Similarly, studies investigating air pollutants generally neglected impacts change. We review current knowledge combined pollution and forest ecosystems identify several key priorities as a roadmap for future. Specifically, we recommend (1) establishment much denser array monitoring sites, particularly in South Hemisphere; (2) further integration ground satellite monitoring; (3) generation flux‐based standards critical levels taking into account sensitivity dominant tree species; (4) long‐term N, S, P cycles base cations deposition together at scale; (5) intensification experimental studies, different abiotic factors by assuring better representation taxonomic functional diversity across ~73,000 species Earth; (6) more focus phenomics genomics; (7) improved processes regulating dynamics radionuclides systems; (8) development models integrating data from programs.
