Abstract Drought stress is a major abiotic affecting the performance of wheat ( Triticum aestivum L . ). The current study evaluated effects drought on phenology, physiology, and biochemistry; assessed effectiveness foliar-applied sulfhydryl thiourea to mitigate drought-induced oxidative stress. treatments were: varieties; V 1 = Punjab-2011, 2 Galaxy-2013, 3 Ujala-2016, 4 Anaaj-2017, stress; D control (80% field capacity [FC]) (40% FC), at reproductive stage, (S) applications; S 0 control-no foliar application @ 500 mg −1 Results this indicated that growth parameters, including height, dry weight, leaf area index (LAI), duration (LAD), crop rate (CGR), net assimilation (NAR) were decreased under stress-40% FC, as compared control-80% FC. reduced photosynthetic efficiency, water potential, transpiration rates, stomatal conductances, relative contents by 18, 17, 26, 29, 55% in varieties control. In addition, chlorophyll a, b also lowered all due an increase malondialdehyde electrolyte leakage. Interestingly, applications restored yield attributes improving production activities proline, antioxidants, osmolytes normal Thiourea improved osmolyte defense peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glycine betaine, total phenolic increased 13, 20, 12, 23, 52%; while reducing leakage content 49 32% Among varieties, Anaaj-2017 showed better resilience towards gave response based morpho-physiological, biochemical, Ujala-2016. Eta-square values applications, stress, key contributors most parameters measured. conclusion, morpho-physiology, thereby mitigating adverse drought. Moving forward, detailed studies pertaining molecular genetic mechanisms thiourea-induced tolerance are warranted.
