Embryonic development is a critical period for phenotype formation. Environmental variation during embryonic can induce changes in postnatal phenotypes of animals. The thyroxine secretion and aerobic metabolic activity small birds are important closely related to their winter survival. In the context climate change, it necessary determine whether temperature incubation leads developmental plasticity these cold responsive phenotypes. We incubated Japanese Quail (Coturnix japonica) eggs at 36.8 °C, 37.8 38.8 raised chicks 35-day old 22 °C with same raising conditions, then all quails were exposed gradually dropping environment (from 15 0 °C). We argue that solutions-based research must avoid treating climate change as a merely technical problem, recognizing instead it is symptomatic of the history European and North American colonialism. It therefore be addressed by decolonizing process transforming relations between scientific expertise knowledge systems Indigenous Peoples local communities. This argument grounds our specific recommendations for governance at local, national, international scales. As concrete mechanisms guide collaboration systems, we propose set instruments based on principles consent, intellectual autonomy, justice. recommend these tools ensure collaborations embody just partnerships support decolonial transformation human communities humanity more-than-human world.

Abstract Floods are amongst the most frequent disasters in terms of human and economic impacts. This study provides new insights into frequency loss life at global scale, mortality fractions population exposed to floods, underlying trends. A dataset is compiled based on EM-DAT disaster database covering period 1975 until 2022, extending previous studies this topic. Flood impact data analysed over spatial, temporal scales, decomposed various flood types compared with other natural disasters. up 1000 fatalities, flash floods lead highest per event, i.e. number deaths an event relative population. Despite growth increasing hazards, average fatalities has declined time. Mortality have decreased time for middle- high-middle-income countries, but increased low-income countries. highlights importance continuing expanding risk reduction adaptation efforts.

However, the extent which and under what conditions impacts responses may produce severe risks peace have seen less systematically assessment date. This essay provides conceptual discussion of entail how such might be considered severe, acknowledging that perceptions, values, social scale must grappled with in identification severity. Informed by available empirical research, then explores climate-related could become during this century. Three illustrative scenarios based on different assumptions about climate-driven related serve illustrate alternative warming adaptation trajectories will distinct implications for prospect future peace. Abstract Climate related changes are already affecting every area of our world and will increasingly do so as global warming increases, resulting in compounding cascading risks across multiple locations sectors. Deliberative processes anticipatory actions required to adapt the associated complex uncertain systemic risks, with dynamic long‐term planning needed even where there is limited knowledge effectiveness adaptation. In this focus article, we examine adaptation pathways developed for Europe Chapter IPCC AR6. Records of past societies confronted with natural climate change can illuminate social responses to environmental stress and environment-disease connections, especially when locally constrained high–temporal resolution paleoclimate reconstructions are available. We present a temperature precipitation reconstruction for ~200 BCE ~600 CE, from southern Italian marine sedimentary archive—the first high-resolution (~3 years) record the heartland Roman Empire, stretching so-called Climate Optimum Late Antique Little Ice Age. document phases instability cooling ~100 CE onward but more notably after ~130 CE. The growing urgency of the climate crisis necessitates innovative educational approaches to equip people with knowledge and skills address challenges be able influence policy effectively. Education can a central asset promoting action, yet importance change education has been underexposed in large influential assessment reports such as those from IPCC. This study provides comprehensive mapping literature on particular focus time period 2008-2023. By combining human coding natural language processing (NLP) techniques, we examined diverse corpus over 6’000 publications peer reviewed literature. findings highlight pivotal role across various disciplines its alignment critical research themes adaptation, mitigation, disaster risk management, sustainability. Our analysis reveals three predominant topics within which are related effective learning methodologies, sustainable development education, adaptation resilience. Additionally, identified emerging emphasizing youth agents, necessity transformative practices energy literacy. Through geoparsing, it was possible infer country mentions case studies. These appeared largely skewed towards English speaking countries United States Kingdom, underpinning diversifying funding fostering an open data culture. insights gained this scoping review underscore potential not only enhance but also drive community engagement initiatives, thus contributing broader action efforts. In essence, suggests for cultivating active informed society capable addressing pressing posed by change. Importantly, calls integration into policy-relevant reports.

Acknowledging that the notion of dangerousness can substantially vary from sociocultural context to another, this Perspective paper builds on recent literature explore three notions are estimated be foundational severity: physical, ecological and social thresholds leading transformational possibly abrupt changes; irreversibility these cascading effects within across systems affected.
