Abstract Contamination of farmland soils by trace elements (TEs) has become an international issue concerning food safety and human health risks. In the present research, concentrations TEs including cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn) iron (Fe) in 16 farmlands were determined Gonabad, Iran. addition, risks due to exposure from assessed. Moreover, soil contamination likelihood was evaluated based on various indices factor $$(\mathrm{CF}$$ ( CF ), enrichment (EF), geo-accumulation index (Igeo), pollution load (PLI) calculations. The mean for Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn Fe ranges as 0.102, 6.968, 22.550, 29.263, 475.281, 34.234, 13.617, 54.482 19,683.6 mg/kg soils. decreased order > Mn Ni Cu Cr Pb Co As Cd. Levels all metals this study within FAO/WHO Iranian standards. HQ values investigated adults children studied farms less than limit 1, indicating no subpopulations. results research indicated significant carcinogenic hazards both through ingestion, skin contact inhalation routes. $$\mathrm{CF}$$ 100% 6.25% above showing moderate conditions. EF recorded “no enrichment”, “minimal enrichment” “moderate classes. Furthermore, it can be concluded that uncontaminated except (moderately contaminated) Igeo. This is indication selected agricultural have appreciable threat health.

Elevated levels of metal(loid)s in soil may pose potential threats to the ecosystem and can be harmful for human health. The concentrations As, Cd, Pb, Cr Ni were determined agricultural collected from 45 pistachio orchards around Feizabad city, Khorasan Razavi province, Iran using ICP-OES. Also, pollution indices including contamination factor (CF), load index (PLI) geo-accumulation (Igeo) evaluated. In addition, non-carcinogenic carcinogenic risk estimated. mean order = 466.256 > 120.848 Pb 12.009 As 5.486 Cd 0.394 mg/kg. Concentrations samples within their respective permissible limits set by World Health Organization (WHO). But 84.4 100% samples, respectively exceeded WHO allowable limits. CF, PLI Igeo showed that some was contaminated with metals. possible sources metals are application pesticides, chemical fertilizers, manures as well irrigation water. Hazard quotient (HQ) ad (HI) values all found below threshold limit (1), suggesting there is no immediate non-cancer threat arising at children adults. highest cancer (1.13E-02 1.25E-03 adults) estimated soil. Collectively, this study provides valuable information improve reduce minimize associated health risks population area.

Non-essential heavy metals (HMs) are one of the most toxic substances released into environment, affecting food chain and posing a threat to security. The research data was collated after carefully observing some studies conducted on commonly consumed products highlighting metal exposure pathways crops techniques adapted quantification HMs in chain. tools developed estimate ecological health risks induced via ingestion HM-contaminated both children adults India discussed. It is observed that Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Zn studied products. Bioaccumulation indices Indian revealed varying intake. Children suffer more from consuming contaminated with than adults. This review summarizes distribution HMs, their pollution, correlation between each HM concentration.

High levels of metal(oid)s in soil or food pose a severe health risk to humans. The potential toxicants find their way into the living systems via chain, following bioaccumulation edible plants, including leafy vegetables grown irrigated with contaminated water, respectively. current study determines vanadium (V), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), arsenic (As), lead (Pb), and cadmium (Cd) (rocca, coriander, parsley) different open farms Qatar investigates human risks (carcinogenic noncarcinogenic). mean concentrations V, Cr, Ni, Cu, As, Cd, Pb rocca are 17.09, 6.41, 1.70, 13.04, 14.72, 0.90, 6.36 mg/kg, respectively; coriander 15.91, 6.03, 1.38, 15.30, 16.86, 0.43, 5.00 parsley 16.25, 6.26, 2.19, 17.97, 16.60, 0.51, 5.46 were observed be higher than recommended World Health Organization (WHO)/Food Agriculture (FAO) values. target hazard quotient (THQ) values Cu As found greater 1 for adult population. For two elements (i.e., As), THQ varied from 1.03 1.42 1.17 1.44 men. In women, ranged 1.20 1.65 1.35 1.55, index (HI) rocca, was 3.99, 4.10, 4.43, respectively, men, 4.64, 4.76, 5.14, among women. carcinogenic (CR) 7.16 × 10 −4 7.61 , 5.57 8.85 5.24 −3 6.01 it 8.31 8.83 6.47 6.09 6.97 all vegetables. crux, consumption selected poses major (both noncarcinogenic carcinogenic) consumer. result, we recommend that studied areas closely monitored protect consumer health.
