Purpose
Emergent
leadership
is
a
relatively
new
phenomenon,
suggesting
that
leaders
emerge
from
within
teams
without
having
formal
assigned
role.
While
emergent
has
much
relevance
in
today's
organizations
transitioning
vertical
to
horizontal
leadership,
there
paucity
of
research
about
the
process
enables
team
members
become
influential
teams.
Design/methodology/approach
Using
purposive
sampling,
we
interview
40
individuals
nine
agile
working
five
Information
Technology
firms.
Findings
We
identify
various
traits,
experiences,
behaviors,
skills,
and
abilities
leaders.
Broadly,
conclude
an
leader
serves
as
“detail-oriented
structure”
or
“big
picture
coordinator.”
Based
on
findings,
propose
emergence
details
how
gain
status
leaders,
well
factors
can
cause
them
lose
return
becoming
regular
member.
Furthermore,
introduce
model
demonstrates
technical
expertise
personality
traits
interact,
influencing
dynamics
facilitating
team.
Originality/value
contribute
literature
by
conceptualizing
lateral
influence
