A place in the shade? Shaded spaces as a domain of geographical research: a literature review (1990–2024)

Abstract The study of shade and shaded spaces has attracted growing interest in a number disciplines. Although geographic studies specifically focused on this subject are relatively rare, there is substantial body interdisciplinary research that addresses the theme relation to ecological, urban, medical social interests. There have recently been calls further analyze these spaces, especially if we consider their importance climate change. In response this, paper aims examine as field geographical through literature review. Ninety-four articles published international journals between 1990 2024 were identified. analyzed with particular reference distribution time publications, location case studies, connections, interests, methodologies used. reveals nature growth recent years. analysis enables us identify dominant trends at same highlight certain gaps. also emphasizes value resource, its many benefits, environmental significance factor various levels. conclusion, seeks bring topic forefront research, encouraging empirical focus right change mitigation.
