For the most part, organisational forms that are currently being adopted by higher education institutions grounded in traditional corporate models of organisation take a rational approach to change management. Nested Organizational Fields: Isomorphism and Differentiation among European Universities DOI

European universities have changed dramatically over the last two to three decades. The dominant frameworks analyze these changes are “New Public Management” and construction of “complete organizations.” Both approaches highlight isomorphic processes leading increased homogenization within universities. However, empirical evidence suggests that differentiating from each other at same time as they becoming more isomorphic. To explain simultaneity differentiation among universities, we use concept nested organizational fields. We distinguish between a global field, several national, state, regional Homogenization then result similar or different field embeddedness advantage this approach lies in explaining individual countries on one hand, well cross-national subgroups hand.

Due to the politicisation of universities-within-the-state, state's governance higher education in China differentiates itself from other countries. This study examines how Chinese central government adjusts its over universities between 1978 and 2018. Based on an extensive analysis policy documents scholarly research, this proposes analytic framework, comprising logics, instruments, institutional demonstrations. Institutional theory has arguably become a popular and powerful explanatory tool for studying various organisational issues, including those in the context of higher education.
