Abstract Mine pit lakes are formed when open‐cut pits flood with water, and these occur by the thousands on every inhabited continent. The remediation closure of is a pressing issue for sustainable development provision freshwater ecosystem services. Abstract Water turbidity can significantly influence interspecific interactions in aquatic ecosystems. We tested the hypothesis that gradient differentiates dynamics, significance and type of relationships structure zooplankton communities colonizing mine pit reservoirs. A study was conducted concerning the perceptions of a future reservoir (4.7–8.9 square kilometres, 42.2 million cubic metres) by residents, tourists, and visitors; location in question former Kotlarnia sand pit catchment area Bierawka River (tributary Oder southern Poland). Abstract Tragic incidents involving mine tailings spills have impacted many aquatic ecosystems around the world. The massive dam collapse of Fundão, which occurred in Brazil 2015, affected several ecosystems, including shallow and deep lakes lower Doce River basin. Until now, effects on functional diversity zooplankton remain poorly understood. We investigated (functional groups, richness [FRic] evenness [FEve]) lakes, exploring influence environmental variables metals. ABSTRACT Biodiversity studies have usually been conducted considering only the taxonomic dimension of ecological communities. However, diversity measurements taking into account functional traits species may be more sensitive in capturing aspects community functioning that are not apparent with traditional approach. In recent years, trait-based research on plankton has gained interest because of its potential to uncover general roles in ecology. While trait categories for phytoplankton and crustaceans have been posited, rotifer assessment lagged behind. Here, we reviewed the literature assess traits key their life histories provided a data matrix 138 valid genera phylum Rotifera. We considered seven traits: habitat type, trophi presence lorica foot, predation defense attributes, corona feeding traits. most were morphological attributes supposedly easy assess, faced with several challenges regarding assignment.
