Adolescence is a peak period for risk‐taking, but research has largely overlooked positive manifestations of adolescent risk‐taking due to ambiguity regarding operationalization and measurement risk‐taking. We address this limitation using mixed‐methods approach. elicited free responses from contemporary college students ( N = 74, M age 20.1 years) describing time they took risk. Qualitative analysis informed the construction self‐report scale, which was administered population‐based sample adolescents 1,249, 16 quantitative validation examination associations with normative impulsive personality. Sensation seeking predicted negative whereas extraversion openness were predominantly related Results provide promising evidence valid measure adolescents' engagement in risks.

Grounded ecological system theory, this study aimed to explore mediating role moderating climate between association behavior. Methods This conducted a longitudinal design (3 time points, 3 months apart) sample comprising 550 middle students southeastern China (52.91% males; mean age at Time 1 = 15.37). performed measurements encompassed (T1), (T2), (T3), behavior (T1/T2/T3), demographic information. Results moderated model revealed that after controlling for T1/T2 behavior, T1 was longitudinally positively correlated T3 through T2 affiliation. Furthermore, analysis demonstrated positive ameliorated adverse impact on thereby mitigating indirect effect among adolescents. Conclusions Our findings propose nuanced explanation processing mechanisms behaviors Chinese theoretical practical implications are discussed.
