This study aimed to assess the compositions and configurations of urban green spaces (UGS) in functional land use areas Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The UGS data were extracted from Landsat 8 (OLI/TIRS) imagery examined along with ancillary data. results showed that high-density mixed residence, medium-density low-density residence contained 16.7%, 8.7%, 42.6% UGS, respectively, together occupied 67.5% total area. Manufacturing storage, social services, transport, administration, municipal function, commercial 11.6%, 8.2%, 6.6%, 3.3%, 1.3%, 1% account for only 32% indicating two-third found residential areas. Further, 86.2% individual measured less than 3000 m2, while 13.8% greater demonstrating a high level fragmentation. also there strong correlations among landscape metrics, relationship between form metrics was moderate. Finally, more studies need be conducted on spatial pattern characteristics using very high-resolution (VHR) images. Additionally, future planning, design, management guided by an understanding composition configuration UGS.

The construction of the urban ecological network has a comprehensive effect on aesthetics, society and economy, provides driving force for sustainable development. However, we found few studies constructing optimizing networks in cities with highest human density. In this paper, landscape pattern indexes were applied to analyze characteristics morphological analysis (MSPA) identify source, connectivity region attributes revised resistance surface, was constructed by MCR model. results show that: (1) many land types mainly distributed tributaries Yangtze River, while only forest water areas occupied northwest are. (2) Compared 1995 2005, number corridors 2015 decreasing. Although improved, which River limited. (3) coordinated development protection optimization plan would promote functioning stability. This study recommendations network, are great significance protecting biodiversity, improving ecosystem functions, maintaining regional security pattern.

Cities are experiencing numerous challenges, adversely affecting human health and wellbeing. Urban green space provides ecosystem services that important to meet urban challenges. One type of is private gardens (yards) make up an essential part many areas. Gardens can support biodiversity provide cultural (CES) its owner. The planting of trees in streets and parks is critical for urban greening efforts that seek to improve climate-change resilience cities around the world. Ecosystem services provided by range from mitigating heat island effects enhancing human well-being conserving native biodiversity. At same time, such tree trade off with disservices include risk safety falling branches infrastructure damage root growth. Here, we performed a survey residents sub-tropical region eastern Australia determine community perceptions ecosystem linked plantings. Our aim was better understand diverse community, prior on-the-ground implementation greening, help guide programs parklands are vulnerable UHI region. We found strong evidence high level public awareness about beneficial can provide. A broad spectrum were valued highly their environment including attract provide food preferred wildlife; shade reduce heat; allow connection nature; have potential store carbon mitigate climate change; protection bushfires; aesthetically pleasing properties; produce people. however, concerns concentrated primarily on as well property injury branches. elicitation attitudes will residents' most important values strongest be explicitly taken into account when establishing community-inclusive approach planting.

Abstract Residential gardens are a principal component of urban green infrastructure throughout the world and their potential positive contributions to biodiversity increasingly recognised. But characteristics reflect needs, values interests individual households. The present review summarises evidence from studies garden published in scientific literature, describes major themes identifies important knowledge gaps. A search Web Science database identified 408 articles on residential (1981–2022), with numbers increasing over time strong bias towards Europe (32.1%) North America (23.8%). Plants invertebrates were most frequently studied, species diversity was often correlated size habitat complexity. Botanic composition vegetation cover positively associated abundance fauna. Non-native plants contributed substantially plant some indicated benefits other linked functional attributes. Intensive management including frequent lawn mowing, fertiliser pesticide application, more formal, ‘neater’ appearance reduced biodiversity. However, results varied amongst studies, for example relation impacts mowing frequency diversity. There general paucity experimental different regimes few replicated tests recommended ‘wildlife-friendly practices’. Several importance connectivity infra-structure dispersal ecosystem functioning. Emerging threats include replacement by development, conversion hard surfaces declining plot sizes. Managing these challenges maximising value requires greater engagement policymakers planners, partnerships between public bodies private households co-ordinate local initiatives.

Urbanization, driven by rapid economic growth, has resulted in dramatic land use/cover change (LUCC), posing substantial risks to urban ecological security. While constructing networks is a productive strategy for achieving balance between protection and urbanization, the limited research conducted on impacts of LUCC spatial patterns during urbanization poses hindrance scientific construction networks. Therefore, this study focuses Jinan City, an important city situated downstream region Yellow River Basin, China. Abstract Residential yards are a form of urban land use that cover considerable amount area in cities worldwide and provide important habitat for wildlife, especially when landscaped with native plants. Nevertheless, most native‐plant landscaping wildlife research the northern temperate regions world has been conducted during spring summer breeding period, leaving gap our understanding importance residential plants as habitats animals nonbreeding period. To fill this gap, we quantified ecological role native‐landscaped to avifauna throughout Greater Los Angeles (LA), California, winter which is time year region hosts high abundance diversity migratory resident birds. We surveyed birds features from October March 2020 2021 at 22 pairs native‐ non‐native‐landscaped plus 10 additional yards. had three objectives study. First, compared avifaunal communities, including feeding nonfeeding behaviors, between Second, relationships bird richness, abundance, behaviors—focusing on species affiliated or natural terrestrial ecosystems region. Third, documented behaviors by non‐native Native‐landscaped greater trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, higher elements, leaf litter bare‐ground cover.
