Abstract Rising rates of suicide fatality, attempts, and ideations among adolescents aged 10–19 over the past two decades represent a national public health priority. Theories that seek to understand suicidal ideation overwhelmingly focus on transition from attempt sole cognition: active – serious consideration killing one’s self, with less attention non-suicidal cognitions emerge during adolescence may have implications for behavior. A large body research exists characterizes not only as period heightened onset prevalence desire no longer be alive (i.e., passive ideation), but also about life death. Our review synthesizes extant literature in content, timing mental imagery thoughts their (1) life; (2) mortality co-occur received limited adolescent suicidology. “cognition-to-action framework prevention” builds existing ideation-to-action theories identify potential leverage points prevention attempted premature death this across span.

Among 193 youth, 126 (65.3%), 32 (16.6%), 35 (18.1%) were low-risk, moderate-risk, high-risk respectively. high proportion reported ever having been diagnosed with psychiatric disorder (57.5%) cannabis was the most heavily used substance. However, only minority received medical care or services past 3 months, 40% 34%, Even fewer mental/emotional months (15%), though highest among group (34%).
