Associations between parental autonomy support and depressive symptoms among Chinese college students: the chain-mediating effects of mindfulness and self-esteem

Introduction
Despite
extensive
research
on
contextual
factors
will
relieve
college
students’
depressive
symptoms,
significant
gaps
remain
in
understanding
the
underlying
mechanisms
of
this
relationship,
particularly
through
individual
strength
such
as
mindfulness
and
self-esteem.
Based
self-determination
theory,
we
explore
association
between
parental
autonomy
support
symptoms
among
Chinese
students
whether
self-esteem
serve
mediators.
Methods
A
total
1,182
aged
16
to
27
years
(
M
age
=
20.33,
SD
1.63;
female
55.7%)
participated
research.
Questionnaires
pertaining
support,
mindfulness,
self-esteem,
were
administered.
Results
The
results
revealed
that
negatively
correlated
with
both
paternal
maternal

chain-mediators.

Adaptation

important
because
differences
in
culture
and
context.
This
study
aims
to
adapt
the
Interpersonal
Support
Evaluation
List
(ISEL-12)
an
Indonesian
Initial
steps
include
back-to-back
translation,
focus
group
discussions,
expert
assessments,
pilot
studies.
From
this
procedure,
number
items
obtained
12
which
original
ISEL-12
version,
there
are
five
revised
according
context
cultural
groups
parenting
activities
mothers
with
children
early
child
age
(3-6
years).
The
twelve
final
questions
were
tested
on
533
average
34.5
years
from
several
regions
Indonesia.
Construct
validity
tests
performed
using
EFA
CFA.
analysis
showed
good
reliability
(Cronbach's
alpha:
0.920)
item
loading
factors
ranging
0.398-0.816
by
showing
that
three-factor
model
was
suitable,
values
based
RMSEA=0.079,
CFI=0.923,
TLI=0.911
GFI=0.918.
conclusion
ISEL-Ind
also
has
3
aspects
forming
social
support
for
who
have
childhood,
namely,
tangible
support,
belonging
appraisal
support.
