With clear links between an individual’s sense of nature connectedness, their psychological wellbeing, and engagement in nature-friendly behaviours, efforts to improve people’s relationships with can help unite human planetary wellbeing. In the context a rapidly growing evidence base, this paper updates previous meta-analytic reviews explore impact (quasi-) experimental manipulations field interventions on connectedness adult populations. The analysis examines relative effects type contact (direct or indirect), quality (active passive) timing (single session, repeated practice residential). Results show medium positive short-term mean effect similar sizes for immediate sustained increases. No size differences were observed different types contact, quality, engagement. Follow-up measures mostly used studies involving regular practices. An agenda future research is put forward, emphasising need examining wider range activities, greater understanding factors leading increases design testing practices connection, initiatives that engage people nature, create conditions encourage activities.

Abstract Suites of concepts and approaches have been launched during recent years to promote urban nature greener cities. However, it is doubtable whether tinkering within the current economic political system can provide adequate solutions. Nature-based Solutions be seen as a new conceptual approach human-ecological connection, an outcome evolutionary development socio-ecological concepts. In this Communication, we argue for drawing up inspiration by outset more sustainable inclusive cities, balancing anthropocentric ecocentric values acknowledging importance social governance dimensions in balanced perspective. We call Thinking.

Relational values reflect the qualities of relationships between humans and nature, such as care, social bonding, place attachment spiritual meanings. In this perspective article, we argue that understanding relational is vital for nature conservation, identify how incorporation these may function leverage points achieving more effective policy. We discuss distinctive features concept elaborate strongly influence people's perceptions of, engagement with action nature. can also provide important deep policy interventions aiming to support citizen's contribution strengthen biodiversity relationship people Based on three realms (re-think, re-structure re-connect), distinguish six routes through which be integrated in policies practices conservation: (1) pluralized meanings nature; (2) uptake language discourse; (3) a prioritization landscape-based policy; (4) empowering citizens conservation; (5) re-orienting education stimulate personal bond (6) using digital technology new

Children's connection to nature (CTN) is declining with each generation, a concerning trend given that CTN positively linked wellbeing and environmentalism. A primary cause of this decline twenty-first-century youth engage screens for several hours day, which large extent replaces nature-based play. Researchers have proposed change represents transition in human orientation, particularly Westernized societies, from (biophilia) digital media (videophilia). Interventions promoting play must acknowledge digital-media use as competing leisure pursuit, but the literature presents little guidance designing programs will attract young people who are more oriented toward than nature. Drawing on wide breadth research, we address gap through (1) exploring implications videophilia programming (2) summarizing recommendations narrative review interventions appeal digital-media-oriented youth.

Abstract Context The global trend of landscape simplification for industrial agriculture is known to cause losses in biodiversity and ecosystem service diversity. Despite these problems being widely known, status quo trajectories driven by economic growth changing diets continue lead further simplification. Objectives In this perspective article, we argue that has negative consequences a range relational values, affecting the social-ecological relationships between people nature, as well social among people. A focus on values been proposed overcome divide intrinsic instrumental gain from nature. Results We use sustainability science framing examine interconnections ecological changes taking place rural landscapes. propose increasingly rapid extreme erodes human-nature connectedness, relations, sense agency inhabitants—potentially point severe erosion cases. illustrate hypothesized through four case studies across globe.
