A steep rise in global plastic production and significant discharge of waste are expected the near future. Plastics pose a threat to ecosystem human health through generation particulate plastics that act as carriers for other emerging contaminants, release toxic chemical additives. Since additives not covalently bound, they can freely leach into environment. Due their occurrence various environmental settings, exert ecotoxicity. However, only 25% have been characterized potential ecological concern. Despite market statistics highlighting substantial burden caused by unrestricted use additives, information on ecotoxicity remains incomplete. By focusing impacts present review aims provide detailed insights following aspects: (i) diversity environment, (ii) leaching from materials, (iii) trophic transfer, (iv) exposure, (v) risks health, (vi) legal guidelines mitigation strategies. Abstract Purpose of Review The synergistic effects microplastics (MPs) and heavy metals are becoming major threats to aquatic life human well-being. Therefore, understanding interactions between MPs is crucial comprehend their environmental impacts. Recent Findings mechanisms such as electrostatic attraction, surface interactions, ion exchange, hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic forces, π–π behind the were critically reviewed justified. Finally, efficient remediation techniques aligning with a circular economy-based initiative promote sustainable solutions recommended mitigate plastic-heavy metal pollution achieve cleaner environment. The increase of micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs) in aquatic environments has become a significant concern due to their potential toxicological effects on ecosystems, food web dynamics, human health. These plastic particles emerge from range sources, such as the breakdown larger waste, consumer products, industrial outputs. This review provides detailed report transmission dangers MNPs environmental behavior, interactions within webs, emphasizing toxic impact marine life. It explores relationship between particle size toxicity, distribution different tissues, process trophic transfer through web. MNPs, once consumed, can be found various organs, including digestive system, gills, liver. Microplastic (MP) pollution has emerged as a significant environmental concern, with exposure to it linked numerous negative consequences for both ecosystems and humans. To tackle this complex issue, innovative technologies that are capable of effectively eliminating MPs from the environment necessary. In review, we examined variety bare composite photocatalysts employed in degradation process. An in-depth assessment benefits drawbacks each catalyst was presented.
