ABSTRACT Yerba mate has been reported to have antihypertensive, hypocholesterolemic, antidiabetic, or antiobesity properties. Most evidences from human trials involved intakes of high amounts by habitual consumers. Considering its increasing popularity, this study aimed at assessing the potential cardiometabolic effects moderate intake yerba nonhabitual A randomized, crossover, controlled was carried out in healthy and hypercholesterolemic subjects. Anthropometric parameters, blood pressure, lipids, glucose metabolism, inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, different markers endothelial function, as well incretins, adipocytokines, hormones were measured baseline after 8 weeks consuming a decaffeinated isotonic drink (control). After daily consumption three servings tea, colony‐stimulating factors decreased all participants. LDL‐C normocholesterolemic individuals, while control interventions elicited similar hypolipidemic action group. Ghrelin glucose‐dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) significantly intake, glucagon‐like peptide 1 (GLP‐1) adipocytokines remained unchanged. Body fat percentage tricipital skinfold only subjects, with no on total body weight. In conclusion, could exert protective consumers subjects cardiovascular risk. Coffee, next to water, is the most consumed drink in world. Coffee contains over 1000 chemical compounds, popular of which are caffeine, chlorogenic acid, kahweol, cafestol and trigonelline. Numerous studies have shown beneficial effects coffee on cardiovascular system, nervous digestive system kidneys. Due high incidence cardiac arrhythmias, especially atrial fibrillation, influence consumption arrhythmogenesis remains a controversial clinically important issue. Many mechanisms by can increase decrease risk arrhythmias been described. Habitual moderate amounts seems lead less reflected results many clinical trials meta-analyzes. Hypertension is a serious global public health issue. Blood pressure (BP) still not effectively controlled in about 20 - 30% of hypertensive patients. Therefore, it imperative to develop new treatments for hypertension. Veratrum alkaloids were once used the clinical treatment hypertension, mechanism which unclear. It was gradually phased out due adverse reactions. This study aimed investigate short-term and long-term hypotensive profiles different components spontaneously rats (SHRs) unveil their mechanisms action.Total alkaloid (V), component A (A), veratramine (M) quickly decreased BP within 30 min treatment, reduced renal cardiovascular damage, improved relevant biochemical indicators (nitric oxide [NO], endothelin-1 [ET-1], angiotensin II [Ang II)], noradrenaline [NE], etc) SHRs delay stroke occurrence. Thereinto, exhibited excellent protective effects disease. The metabolomic treated with V, A, M significantly from those vehicle. Thirteen metabolites identified as potential pharmacodynamic biomarkers. Through Kyoto Encyclopedia Genes Genomes analysis, M-induced hypotension mainly related alterations nicotinate nicotinamide metabolism, GABAergic synapses, linoleic acid ketone body synthesis degradation, arginine proline urea cycle, metabolism key metabolic pathway relieve hypertension. This work shows that an effective promising antihypertensive agent hypertension reduce target organ mediated through modulating RAS, NO-ET homeostasis.

Caffeine is widely consumed not only in coffee but also soft drinks and tea. However, the long-term health effects of caffeine are still controversial, especially people with high cardiovascular risk such as elderly patients hypertension. This study analyzed data from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey 2003-2018. intake was calculated by two 24-h dietary recall interviews. Complex sampling-weighted multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to compare hazard ratios (HRs) all-cause mortality hypertensive different (<10, 10 <100, 100 <200, 200 <300, ≥300 mg/day).This included 6,076 patients. The mean ± standard error follow-up duration 6.86 0.12 years. During this period, a total 2,200 deaths occurred, which 765 deaths. Taking < mg/day reference, moderate (200 <300 mg/day) had lower (HR, 0.70 [95% CI, 0.56-0.87]) 0.55 0.39-0.77]) mortality. benefit reducing significant female 0.65 0.50-0.85]) or well-controlled blood pressure 0.63 0.46-0.87]), male poorly controlled pressure. Coffee is a popular beverage and the most used psychostimulant worldwide. Habitual coffee consumption has been linked to growing list of health benefits; however, source longstanding debate. Recent observational studies have challenged misconception caffeine reported safety beneficial effects intake on range cardiovascular (CV) conditions, including coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, stroke, leading decreased risk CVD, all-cause CVD mortality, being associated with favorable CV outcomes. However, mechanisms underlying protective remain speculative, there lack dedicated aimed at addressing impact different subtypes clinical outcomes such as arrhythmia, mortality. Study Results: The study included 449,563 UK Biobank participants, free problems enrollment (median age 58 years; 55.3% females). median follow-up time was 12.5 years. Drinking 4 5 cups/day ground (HR 0.83; 95% CI [0.76-0.91]; P < .0001) or 2 3 instant (HR, 0.88; [0.85-0.92]; (but not decaffeinated coffee) significant reduction in incident AF. up reductions CHD 0.89, [0.86-0.91], 0.0001), CCF 0.83, [0.79-0.87], ischemic stroke 0.84, [0.78-0.90], 0.0001). led mortality 0.86, [0.83-0.89], 0.0001) 0.82, [0.74-0.90], Consumption all levels significantly reduced There no difference incidence among categories across subtypes. The results from indicate that mild-to-moderate types improved lower disease death, caffeinated reducing Daily should be discouraged by physicians, even presence newly developed disease. Background The use of herbal medicines (HMs) for the treatment hypertension (HTN) is increasing globally, but research on potential adverse effects and safety HMs in HTN patients limited. Therefore, this systematic review meta-analysis aim to determine global prevalence HM usage among assess identified herbs based current scientific evidence. Methods PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE (Ovid), Cumulated Index Nursing Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases were searched cross-sectional studies patients. Our includes published English up year 2023. After extracting appraising data from studies, a was conducted using Stata version 16.0 estimate pooled with (PROSPERO: CRD42023405537). classification done existing literature. Results This study analyzed 37 21 countries found that 37.8% used manage their health. varied significantly publication geographical region. Among 71 herbs, Allium sativum L., Hibiscus sabdariffa Olea europaea L. most commonly used. However, four as contraindicated, 50 required caution, only 11 considered safe use. Conclusion highlights risks toxicities associated HTN. Ensuring patient involves appropriate doses avoiding contraindicated HMs. Future should focus identifying especially resource-limited poor management, additional clinical toxicity
