This paper presents one line of sociocultural psychology aiming at a better understanding people’s development in their courses life, unfolding changing social and cultural environments. Adopting such position leads me to three core questions: first, if occurs the junction psychological, how can we theoretically account for guidance world upon learning development, unique capacities create transform these environments? The Life of the Mind (1978) opens with a reflection thinking. By thinking, Hannah Arendt means our capacity to withdraw from world so as reflect about meaning things. Thinking is an activity no results in itself: searching for meaning, it cannot reach goal, any hence produced can only be questioned again. made possible through imagination, and demands use language metaphors. It also has part form inner dialogue – moment which we become two-in-one. Hence, seems define thinking dynamic, mediated dialogical process making. In this paper, I first situate Arendt’s on within her life work. then present main propositions: that not knowing; withdrawal; implies imagination; by metaphors; dialogue; escapes time. What is it that develops in adult life? Development through work and family life have been documented theorised detail, but much less known about what learned beyond these domains, people’s engagements hobbies or when out of (e.g., unemployed, retired). We argue development can be addressed general terms, domain specificity; drawing on our sociocultural psychology framework, assuming an open-system perspective, we highlight the two processes progressive differentiation psychological distancing diverse domains activity. To address over time, explore 20 years lives longitudinal analysis online diaries. A combination quantitative qualitative enables us to identify experiences rupture transitions, diversity their interests, how change time.
