Associations Between Intrinsic Motivation, Exercise Attitudes, Physical Activity, and Mental Health in Young Adolescents: An Integrated Motivational Perspective

Purpose:
Physical
activity
(PA)
and
mental
health
(MH)
are
priorities
for
promotion
during
early
adolescence.
This
study
explored
associations
between
intrinsic
motivation
PA,
exercise
attitudes,
PA
MH
in
young
adolescents.
Methods:
Participants
were
315
students
(Mage
=
11.41;
SD
2.09;
45.1%
girls)
conveniently
sampled
from
two
private
British
schools
Dubai.
Data
collected
via
a
survey
analyzed
using
structural
equation
modeling.
Results:
As
hypothesized,
higher
was
directly
associated
with
more
favorable
attitudes
increased
PA.
Unexpectedly,
however,
not
better
outcomes.
A
fitting
model
specified
which

MH.
Conclusions:
Further
research
examining
adolescents
is
warranted.

From activity to obesity: understanding gender and type of school divide among Saudi adolescents

Obesity
has
emerged
as
a
significant
predictor
of
the
nationwide
burden
non-communicable
diseases
in
Saudi
Arabia.
This
study
explores
patterns
body
mass
index
(BMI),
physical
activity
(PA),
and
sedentary
behavior
(SB)
among
adolescents,
focusing
on
variations
by
gender
school
type
(public
vs.
private).
It
identifies
key
factors
affecting
BMI.

2,815
students
(53.64%
