Human activities in Antarctica were increasing before the COVID-19 pandemic, and tourism was not an exception. The growth diversification of Antarctic over last few decades have been extensively studied. However, environmental impacts associated with this activity received less attention despite body scholarship examining issues related to tourism. Aside from raising important research questions, potential negative effects tourist visits are also issue discussed by Treaty Consultative Parties. This study presents results a meta-analysis scholarly publications that synthesizes updates our current knowledge resulting A first publication database containing 233 records focussed on topic compiled subjected general bibliometric content analysis. Further, in-depth analysis performed subset 75 records, which showing specific impacts. main topic, methods, management proposals, gaps highlighted respective authors these assessed. range topics addressed, methods used – including application established designs field impact assessment –, conclusions reached discussed. Interestingly, almost one third studies did detect direct relationship between significant environment. Cumulative little attention, long-term comprehensive monitoring programs only rarely, leading us assume such scarce. More importantly, connections policy or do always exist. highlights need for strategy investigate monitor Antarctica. programme stimulate debate among members scientific communities is proposed, ultimate goal advancing regulation collaboratively.

ABSTRACT Animal migration has fascinated scientists and the public alike for centuries, yet migratory animals are facing diverse threats that could lead to their demise. The Anthropocene is characterised by reality humans dominant force on Earth, having manifold negative effects biodiversity ecosystem function. Considerable research focus been given assessing anthropogenic impacts numerical abundance of species/populations, whereas relatively less attention devoted animal migration. However, there clear linkages, example, where human‐driven behaviour can population/species declines or even extinction. Here, we explore (in all domains – aquatic, terrestrial, aerial) using International Union Conservation Nature (IUCN) Threat Taxonomy classifications. We reveal (e.g. human development, disease, invasive species, climate change, exploitation, pollution) impact wildlife in varied ways spanning taxa, life stages type from direct mortality changes behaviour, health, physiology). Notably, these often interact complex unpredictable detriment wildlife, further complicating management. Fortunately, beginning identify strategies conserving managing Anthropocene. provide a set that, if embraced, have potential ensure animals, important ecological functions sustained migration, persist.

Biological conservation relies on protected areas, which need funding for acquisition and management. Economic valuation of ecosystem services contributes political economic support government budget allocations. One politically powerful cultural service is improved mental health park visitors, known as value or HSV. Previous HSV estimates were extrapolated from a single country, Australia. Here we provide more precise global estimate by: focussing China the largest newly-industrialised economy; comparing across 25 parks throughout China, using Personal Wellbeing Index, PWI; measuring PWI at representative heavily-visited Shennongjia National Park, gateway counterpart. We calculated ΔPWI function visit rate, controlled socioeconomic, demographic physical factors. This yielded ΔPWI∼2.75 % in Published data show that: population 1.4 billion; proportion visiting 32 (cf ∼70 developed nations); mean national financial per quality-adjusted life-year US$63,500 ∼US$200,000). Parks thus US$0.78 trillion annum. Scaling up to include India, Brazil Russia, total bloc US$1.13 annum, ∼5 GDP. Including previous nations, where ∼8 GDP, yields new US$ 5.1 ± 2.0 6 substantially than estimates. For local applications, next step will be scale down individual parks, ecosystems, species.

Weather, climate, and climate change all effect outdoor recreation tourism, will continue to cause a multitude of effects as the warms. We conduct systematic literature review better understand how weather, affect nature-based tourism across United States. specifically explore differ by recreational activity, visitors supply-side operators perceive these risks. The 82 papers reviewed show complex ways in which may recreation, with common themes being an extended season participate warm-weather activities, shorter snow-dependent larger negative activities that depend on somewhat consistent precipitation levels (e.g., snow-based water-based fishing). Nature-based tourists variety some recreationists have already changed their behavior result change. suppliers are noticing wide effects, including shifts seasonality specific visitation overall. Collectively, this provides insights into our current understanding opportunities for future research.

Nature-based tourism constitutes a major segment of world tourism. Protected areas are considered popular theme in the literature, which is characterised by great heterogeneity concepts, contents, and purposes. This study analyses many indicators interest related to research on themes protected nature-based Consequently, we aim offer global updated vision produced regarding these over last 30 years. With bibliometric tools (Bibliometrix VOSviewer), 1033 scientific articles were analysed. The results indicate that this area exponentially increased decade. Using co-occurrence network keywords, five identified: (1) ecotourism; (2) nature conservation, biodiversity, sustainability; (3) national parks, recreation, climate change; (4) sustainable management development; (5) with lesser degree representation, China ecosystem services. A timespan analysis enabled identification six trends years: (i) tourism; (ii) (iii) geotourism rural (iv) services cultural services; (v); visitor studies; (vi) wildlife plays significant crucial role development. Analysing provides insights into key emerging trends, serving as valuable resource for knowledge advancement.

Abstract The degradation of ecosystems threatens the provision ecosystem services and limits human well-being. This systematic literature review evaluates threats surrounding cultural (CES), namely recreation landscape aesthetics in European permanent grasslands. We identified underlying causes, direct threats, consequences suggested solutions for threat mitigation. most common were land-use management change processes, followed by social attitude, industrial developments natural threats. However, recreational activities also created negative feedback, affecting ecosystem, biodiversity CES, frequently form various touristic activities. Suggested commonly socio-economic institutional measures to enhance rural communities, as well improving communication with relevant stakeholders. CES play a crucial role reconnecting people nature, their consequent acknowledgement incorporation into future service frameworks agri-environmental policy are key elements supporting sustainable grassland management.

In this research, we employ hybrid approach understand conditions features contribute good trail, using interviews with guides identify highlight concepts for further refinement structuring broad, integrative review relevant research planning literature. Through iterative approach, describe three site-related criteria (landscape character quality, tranquility, accessibility) two trail-related (design construction key qualities), each number sub-criteria detailing specific considerations. Global change is currently impacting ecosystems and their contributions to people (i.e. ecosystem services). These impacts have consequences for societies human well-being, especially in Africa. Historically, efforts focused on assessing global from a social or biophysical perspective, treating them as separate entities.
