Soybean is one of the five crops that dominate global agriculture, along with maize, wheat, cotton and rice. In Europe, soybean still plays a minor role cultivated mainly in South East. Very little known about potential for higher latitudes relatively cool conditions. To investigate agronomic limitations feed (high grain yield) food protein content, e.g., tofu production) latitudes, an organic cropping system experiment was carried out from 2015 to 2017 northeastern Germany. The objectives were: (1) identify food- feed-grade cultivars are adapted central European climate terms protein, yield, yield stability, (2) explore effect irrigation on under dry growing conditions, (3) determine agro-economic cultivation both markets. Potassium iodate and potassium iodide are commonly fortified in iodized table salt, which must be continuously monitored to maintain quality. Our study reported an optimized detection method for total iodine salt using 0.5 M sodium bisulfite as the reducing agent. The (0.5 g) was dissolved solution prior injection ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled with a diode array detector weak anion-exchange column (2.1 mm × 150 mm, 5 μm). Iodide eluted at 9.92 ± 0.06 min (λ = 223 nm) when isocratic mobile phase of 1:1 (v/v) methanol/120 mM phosphate buffer mixed tetrasodium pyrophosphate (pH 3.0) running 0.20 mL/min (15 min). detected from 10.0 50.0 mg/kg limit (LOD) 1.2 quantification (LOQ) 3.7 mg/kg. validated relative standard deviations (RSDs) 4.2%, 0.4%, 1.6%, 0.8% accuracy, repeatability, intermediate precision, robustness, respectively. determination successful on six (6) samples (n 3), recovered 87.2–106.9% spike. The intercropping of two or more crop species on the same piece land at a given time has been hypothesized to enhance yield stability. To address this hypothesis, we assessed grain stability various barley-pea and wheat-faba bean mixtures grown in seven experimental field trials (locations) across Europe during years with contrasting weather (2017 2018). Three different measures were used, all based expected variability mixture components as sole crops, corresponding observed 50:50 replacement design. Stability indices calculated ratios between variabilities, values > 1 indicating greater intercrops. Mean yields tended be higher intercrops than crops. However, contrast our (intercrop) was similar lower (sole crop) most locations except one. Furthermore, significantly increased increasing mean when differentially productive locations. results are relevant for designing systems means increase resilience cropping systems.

Abstract In the face of climate change, cropping systems need to achieve a high performance, providing food and feed adapting variable environmental conditions. Diversification can support ecosystem services associated biodiversity, but there is little evidence on which temporal field arrangement affects performance crop yields (productivity stability), partly due lack long-term data appropriate indicators. Abstract Grasslands, which encompass 40% of terrestrial ecosystems, hold global significance for food production, carbon storage and other ecosystem services. However, grasslands across the biosphere are becoming increasingly exposed to both wet dry precipitation extremes resulting from climate change. Therefore, understanding how will respond is a pressing issue managing changes biodiversity service provision. Here, we use experimental manipulations (50% increase 50% decrease in growing‐season precipitation) over 6 years investigate stability resistance productivity community diversity calcareous grassland community. We found that decreased led reductions mean (25% peak above‐ground biomass) its temporal (54% coefficient variation biomass years). Productivity losses were more pronounced graminoids legumes, but this was not reflected species per cent cover. Climate and land-use change are key drivers of global change. Crop productivity in sub-Saharan Africa cannot be substantially improved without simultaneously addressing short-term crop nutrient demand and long-term soil fertility. Integrated fertility management tackles both by the combined application of mineral fertilizers organic resource inputs but few studies examined its' effectiveness. To address this knowledge gap, study analysed maize yield trends four (31–37 cropping seasons) field experiments Kenya with contrasting textures under different climates. All sites had two seasons per year, received a base P K fertilization tested combinations addition (1.2 4 t C ha-1 yr-1 ranging from farmyard manure, to high-quality Tithonia diversifolia Calliandra calothyrsus material low-quality saw dust), (+N) (-N) N fertilizer (120 kg season-1). General across site specific were analyzed. Across sites, no-input control experienced significant average reductions 50 over period. In contrast, treatment manure +N maintained yields at 1.2 yr-1.
