Agroecology is often considered as the ultimate and most comprehensive solution to many challenges of agricultural food system, also referred agri-food system. This review investigates what extent agroecology can become mainstream model for transforming agriculture toward more sustainable resilient systems within given economic political context. We find that enhancing will require a fully integrated multiscale approach from farm region globe. The must consider relevant processes relationships, actors stakeholders well drivers, sustainability indicators, respective assessment methods across all scales. Giving specific attention drivers related economy, technology, policy we point out needs be economically viable farmers other system actors. In particular, new emerging technologies digitalization breeding should consideration in agroecological transformation. stress need an analytical operational framework adequate design suggest six areas needed support large-scale adoption agroecology.

During the last 2 decades, several studies have analyzed theoretical and practical development of agroecology in different countries. In each country, transition has followed paths paces. Using a detailed review myriad sources, this article describes evolution Mexico from 1920 to date. Our analysis was based on set indicators such as research teams, courses degrees, publications, conferences, professional associations unions, policies laws, agricultural production, well social movements resistances. We identified 5 main stages: precursor stage (1920–1960), foundational (1960–1980), an institutionalization (1980–2000), deployment (2000–2018), scaling-up (2018–to date). The discusses importance role played by current government deploying multiplying agroecological practices throughout country. Given history over 7,000 years practices, persistent tradition small-scale farmer resistance that reached peak during agrarian revolution (1910–1917), addition participation producers agroecologically oriented programs promoted administration, search for sustainable food systems seems promising.

Herbicide-resistant weeds pose a global challenge, constraining agricultural practices worldwide. Despite efforts to establish an integrated, data-driven framework, understanding the varied risks of herbicide resistance (HR) across different agroecological zones remains elusive. This review paper advocates for integrated approach that incorporates socioeconomic, environmental, adoption behavior, and physiological factors uncover insights into HR drivers develop tailored management strategies. not only escalates production costs but also necessitates alternative weed tactics, highlighting urgency proactive environmental mitigate soil health degradation biodiversity loss. While current initiatives prioritize (IWM) like crop rotation mixtures, challenges persist in integrating socioeconomic predictive models promoting universal sustainable practices. Advancements big data analytics, spatial modeling, remote sensing offer promising avenues predicting managing landscapes. study proposes research framework predict emergence agri-food systems. Additionally, utilizes novel text-mining technique conduct comprehensive literature review, gaps development modeling platforms emergence. The text mining findings explored while common terms weeds, resistance, herbicides, crops, management, control are prevalent, often lacks focus on approaches HR. Transitioning to agroecology on dairy and beef farms is touted as a sustainable response environmental externalities. The current study conducted narrative interviews with farmers who transitioned towards agroecological food production by implementing pro-environmental diversification measures in the Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom France. aimed determine farmers’ experiences used thematic approach for analysis. Results indicate that motivations, values principles transitioning are closely aligned ideology new/peasantry. Farmers’ decisions were primarily influenced ecological sense responsibility protection, particular biographical events central transition an alternative system based agroecology. Other explanatory factors related desires increase autonomy profitability farm, their conscious efforts eliminate dependence external inputs. Farmers entered agriculture no family background farming had acquired skillsets which provided them specific advantages advancing goals. This paper provides insights relevant policymakers, extension education providers how practically support transition.

This review focused on the inventory of current digital technologies available agricultural market in Germany. A total 189 were found as December 2023. Digital agriculture rarely contain few components. They consist various other that have many common interfaces. Therefore, a classification two levels was done: categorized according to their type (software-based and hardware-based technologies) mode operation (farm management information systems/ decision support systems, for guidance steering, platforms, citizen science applications sensors, field robots unmanned aerial vehicles). Furthermore, expected potentials these tools promotion nature conservation ecosystem service provisioning Germany framed. The also discusses barriers can impact provisioning. Germany, one world’s leading nations production use modern technologies, had set ambitious goals regarding digitalisation solution problems, which not yet been fulfilled. are still strongly supressed by non-sustainable barriers, e.g., high acquisition costs, practical maturity, infrastructure. Current policies societal preferences contributing enough steer direction providing services. main participants discussion researchers, whereby smallest group farmers. For sustainable transformation agriculture, including restoration protection targets nature, ecosystems, more wide-ranging, diversifying changes supported needed along ecological concepts long-term resilience systems.

Crambe (Crambe abyssinica Hochst. ex R.E.Fr.) is a drought-tolerant, non-edible annual crop with low fertilization needs, and there are compelling opportunities for crambe to capitalize on market growth in natural cosmetics the regional sustainability. It therefore proposed cleaner biomass production marginal land, development of novel value chains rural areas. Therefore, this study assesses prospects growing processing Swabian Alb, area southwestern Germany large parts which characterized by shallow stony soil. A literature review, stakeholder questionnaires, SWOT analysis were used assess crambe's potential region. This informed locally adapted web, combines multiple stakeholders into one interlinked diagram showing present valorization However, it was found that not currently possible implement web Alb.
