This study investigated the availability, price, nutritional composition, and quality of plant-based meat alternatives (PBMAs) in supermarkets hypermarkets Petaling, most populated district Malaysia. The survey covered 85 stores through on-site visits, identifying 251 unique PBMA products from 42 brands. PBMAs were categorized into nine groups: Burgers/Patties, Coated Meat, Luncheon Minced Pastries, Pieces/Chunks/Fillets/Strips, Prepacked Cooked Meals, Sausages, Seafood Balls/Cakes/Meatballs. indicated widespread availability with premium offering extensive selection. median prices across categories below MYR 7 (~USD 1.6) per 100 grams, Pieces/Chunks/Fillets/Strips being affordable. Nutritionally, exhibited lower energy, total fat, saturated sodium, protein levels than equivalents, while showing higher carbohydrate content. Nutri-Score profiling revealed generally favourable scores (Grade A to C), indicating moderate good quality. These findings suggest that offer a viable alternative for consumers Malaysia seeking healthier more sustainable food options, particularly those aiming reduce their intake fat sodium. However, may not be recommended individuals diet. Further research is explore micronutrient profiles enhance dietary decision-making.

Introduction In 2022, the Colombian government approved a law requiring by 2024 use of Front Package octagonal warning labels in food products with an excess nutrients concern for chronic disease, including sodium, sugar, saturated fat, and trans-fat, as well non-nutritive sweeteners (NNS). addition, began 2023 applying 10% tax on sugar-sweetened beverages foods that also had sugar fat. This increased to 15% $20% 2025. While previous study examined changes nutritional composition beverage offered Colombia between 2016 2018, it is necessary update this information understand whether industry anticipated labeling regulations reformulating products. Methods carried out comparison content selected (NNS) from panels 164 matched pairs packaged top selling brands 2021 compared 2016. McNemar’s test paired data was used evaluate proportion each critical NNS be regulated. Results There were no significant trans or free prior policy implementation. However, there increase presence beverages, during pre-policy period 32 59%. Conclusion These findings suggest nutrient been marginal before implementation laws.

Ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption has been linked to adverse metabolic outcomes, potentially mediated by alterations in gut microbiota and metabolite production. This study aims explore the cross-sectional longitudinal associations between NOVA-classified UPF consumption, fecal microbiota, metabolome a population of Mediterranean older adults at high cardiovascular risk. A total 385 individuals, aged 55 75 years, were included study. Dietary lifestyle information, anthropometric measurements, stool samples collected baseline after 1-year follow-up. Fecal assessed using 16 S rRNA sequencing liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, respectively. At baseline, higher was associated with lower abundance Ruminococcaceae incertae sedis (β = - 0.275, P 0.047) concentrations metabolites propionylcarnitine 0.0003, 0.013) pipecolic acid 0.040) feces. Longitudinally, increased reduced Parabacteroides spp. follow-up 0.278, 0.002). High less favorable profiles, suggesting possible link short-chain fatty (SCFA) production, altered mitochondrial energy metabolism, impaired amino metabolism. These findings support reduction promotion dietary patterns rich fiber for better health. Further research is needed confirm these clarify underlying mechanisms.
