ABSTRACT Like a coin, the impacts of screens on children’s development have two sides, as reflected in current scientific knowledge. This narrative review aimed to explore dual-faceted state art regarding screen use, highlighting both positive and negative aspects neurodevelopment, intervention proposals, future perspectives for appropriate use. Recent findings emphasize central points: one hand, benefits such co-viewing use educational content; other excessive passive, non-educational neural networks. In this sense, with advent digital age light results, it is clear that eliminating from daily life unrealistic. Problematic internet and smartphone use are significant health challenges for contemporary adolescents. However, their mutual relationship is unclear because studies investigating these phenomena scarce. The present study aimed to investigate the psychological risks protective factors associated with problematic use.A representative sample of Slovak adolescents (N = 4070, Mage 14.38, SDage 0.77, 50.5% girls) from Health Behavior in School-aged Children project was analyzed using network analysis separately boys girls. The results showed weak (for boys) moderate associations between use. Risk stronger than use, exception fear missing out, which strongly central nodes were externalizing problems internalizing problems, resilience concluded that while somewhat related, they differ at level. However, there is possible link between video gaming (including esports) problematic internet use (so-called addiction, IA), mostly involving adolescents. Methods: Here we present an online survey focusing on prevalence risk factors addiction adult esports players. Demographics included age, gender, family type, type work, working years daily use. Medical conditions associated with IA such as smoking, alcohol drug intake, hypertension, diabetes, ischemic heart disease, musculoskeletal pain history depression were also recorded. Results: Overall, 2313 players including 176 females (7.6%) 2137 males (92.4%) participated our survey. Age distribution was following: 18–25 90.3% (2088/2313), 26–35 7.95% (184/2313), 36–45 0.86% (20/2313), 46–55 0.82% (19/2313), 56–62 0.04% (1/2313) 62 or older (1/2313). Introduction The extensive availability of the internet has led to recognition problematic usage (PUI) or so called addiction (IA), probably mostly involving adolescents. Aim Here we present a study focusing on incidence and consequences (including burnout, which is relatively rarely studied) among high school students using questionnaire-based non-random sampling cross-sectional survey. Included questionnaires were Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire, Maslach Burnout Inventory General Survey for Students MBI-GS (S), 9-item short version Beck Depression (BDI-SF), Athens Insomnia Questionnaire EQ-5D (quality life) questionnaire. Data evaluated exertion Student’s t -test, chi square test Pearson’s rank-order correlation. Logistic regression analysis was used determine significance different parameters as independently associated with PUI. Results Overall 3,000 paper-based successfully delivered 2,540 responses received (response rate 84.6%). 1,309 males (mean age 17.6 ± 1.43 years) (51.5%) 1,231 females 17.5 1.4 (48.5%) took part in our study. detected 486 (19.1%) (232 males, mean 1.35 years 254 females, 17.34 1.37 years). In logistic sleep disturbance (OR: 1.84, 95% CI: 1.83–2.03), depression 1.97, 1.77–2.02) burnout 1.8, 1.16–1.94) significantly Conclusion Nearly one fifth population suffered from PUI, strongly insomnia depression, underlines importance this phenomenon.

Increased aggression due to gaming addiction is a widespread and highly publicized problem. The underlying processes by which verbal aggression, more harmful persistent subcategory of affected may differ from other types aggression. In this study, data came 252 randomly recruited current university students (50.79% male, mean age 19.60 years, SD: 1.44 range 17 29 years). Participants reported different through questionnaires. addition, two important explanatory processes, inhibitory control, risk preference, were measured behavioral experiments. A Bayesian hierarchical drift-diffusion model was employed interpret the preference task. contrast previous work, study found that control did not significantly correlate with either or any form However, drift rate, measure decision-making inclination under risk, partially mediates relationship between (but forms aggression). findings illuminate adverse conditions as key predictor offering avenues for early intervention suggesting game design modifications mitigate adjusting reward mechanisms.

We aimed to assess the prevalence, content structure and, psychological comorbidity of PIU in Russian adolescents. In addition, design our research provided an opportunity compare demographic and patterns different forms PIU: generalized (PIUgen) specific problematic video game use (PUgame), as well social media (PUsocial). Methods: This is a one-stage cross-sectional observational study school sampling three major Siberian cities. A total 4514 schoolchildren aged 12–18 (mean age 14.52 ± 1.52 years) were surveyed. The Chen Internet Addiction Scale, Game Scale for Adolescents, Social Media Disorder used identify its types. Results: prevalence PIUgen among adolescents Central Siberia was 7.2%; PUgame 10.4%; PUsocial 8.0%. results structural equation modelling, correlation analysis data, suggest two possible psychosocial problems with PIU—the first one characteristic both PUsocial. second one—which significantly different—is PUgame.
