Abstract This study explores the dynamics of sleep, somatic/psychological experience, and exercise performance before, during, after Tour de France (TDF). Objective subjective self‐reported perceived objective data were collected daily from eight elite male cyclists across a 6‐week period including 3‐week TDF 11‐day pre‐ post‐race periods. Associations between, temporal changes in, primary interest metrics explored through Pearson correlation linear mixed models. Participants (mean ± SD) aged 30 4 years with overall sleep duration 8 h 11mins (±58 min) per night. Sleep quality (0–100) was lower during race than pre‐race (β [95% CI]; −8.0[−11.7, −4.3]). During period, onset (4 [2, 5] mins) offset times delayed (5 [3, 7] stress increased (1.87 [1.14, 2.61]) daily. Increases in muscular soreness (0.6 [0.3, 0.8]) fatigue (0.4 [0.2, 0.6]) preceded declines (−3.1 [−4.0, −2.1]; −2.7 [−3.5, −1.8]). Relative output (Performance Index; 0–1000) negatively predicted ( r −0.32 [−0.46, −0.17]) (−0.34 [−0.47, −0.19]) race. Temporal associations timing, function highlight potential for sleep‐improvement strategies that enhance naturalistic endurance sporting contexts.

Abstract Sleep deprivation (DS) is the forced elimination of sleep. While brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) has been extensively studied in context mood changes following DS, role other neurotrophins remains elusive. This study explores impact DS on BDNF, glial cell line-derived (GDNF), neurotrophin-3 (NT3), and neurotrophin-4 (NT4) at mRNA protein level, considering their potential links to disturbances. The involved 81 participants subjected polysomnography (PSG) DS. Blood samples, assessments, actigraphy data were collected twice, after PSG NT expression serum concentrations GDNF, NT3, NT4 measured. Participants divided into Responders Non-Responders based improvement reduced BDNF all participants, with no change protein. GDNF decreased Non-Responders, while exhibited mRNA. NT3 increased both groups, Respondents. rose universally post-DS, but remained unchanged. Physical activity (PA) negatively correlated post-DS. study’s short duration exclusion immature forms limit comprehensive insights. together might play an important response PA during seems impair NTs leukocytes. Quantifying athlete sleep patterns may inform development of optimal training schedules and strategies, considering the competitive challenges faced across season. Therefore, this study comprehensively quantified a female basketball team examined variations in between nights. Seven semi-professional, players had their monitored using wrist-worn activity monitors perceptual ratings during 13-week in-season. Sleep variables were compared different nights (control nights, before games, non-congested game congested nights), generalized linear mixed models, as well Cohen’s d odds ratios effect sizes. Players experienced less on games to control (p < 0.05, = 0.43–0.69). also exhibited later onset times 0.01, 0.68), earlier offset following all other 0.74–0.79). Moreover, attaining better perceived quality was 88% lower than 0.001). While attained an adequate duration (7.3 ± 0.3 h) efficiency (85 2%) average in-season, they susceptible poor games. Although limited team-based case series design, these findings suggest coaches need reconsider scheduling team-based, on-court sessions prior consider implementing suitable psychological recovery strategies around optimize player sleep.

Abstract Establishing a relationship between repetitions left in reserve and the mean absolute velocity (RIR‐velocity relationship) during resistance training (RT) could allow for objective monitoring, prescription, real‐time adjustment of load set‐volume. Therefore, we examined goodness fit prediction accuracy general individual RIR‐velocity relationships free‐weight back squat exercise. The effects sex, status history, as well personality traits, on these were also investigated. Forty‐six resistance‐trained people (15 females 31 males) performed one‐repetition maximum (1RM) test, two to failure (RTF) tests 72 h apart. We found greater compared relationships. Individual, but not established first testing session yielded acceptable RIR (mean error <2 repetitions) subsequent session, regardless used. Similar results obtained when both averaged across loads, suggesting that single covering range loads can be used instead traditional RT methods, potentially allowing better fatigue management more efficient adaptation.

The sensitivity these to detect smallest changes in that correspond true RT performance was also investigated. Fifty-one resistance-trained men women performed an incremental loading (1RM) test, two repetitions failure tests with different loads, 72 h apart. During all repetitions, mean (MV) peak (PV) were simultaneously recorded by each brand. Overall, GymAware most reliable sensitive device for detecting performance, regardless metric used. can be considered as equivalent, cheaper alternative prescription, but only if MV is Caution should exercised when using practice due their comparatively higher, unacceptable measurement error generally low performance. Collectively, findings support use PV from prescription magnitudes error; thus, allowing detection meaningful neuromuscular status functional RT.
