Purpose While prior research has established that traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a risk factor for violent offending, there little understanding of mechanisms may underpin this relationship. This problematic, as better these could facilitate more effective targeting treatment. study aims to address gaps in the extant literature by examining TBI predictor offending and test mediation effects through cognitive constructs dual systems imbalance hostility among sample justice-involved youth (JIY). Design/methodology/approach The Pathways Desistance data were analyzed. first three waves set comprising responses 1,354 JIY Generalized structural equation modeling was used direct indirect interest. A bootstrap resampling process compute unbiased standard errors determining statistical significance effects. Findings Lifetime experience associated with increased frequency at follow-up. Hostility significantly mediated relationship, but did not. indicated programming focused on reducing who have experienced aid recidivism rates. Originality/value To best author’s knowledge, identify significant relationship between hostility.

The dual systems model focuses on imbalance in the development of impulse control and sensation-seeking during adolescence. This is posited to explain high propensity for involvement risky behaviors this period life-course, like marijuana use. Parental monitoring may be a social factor which help understand relationship. study sought examine as predictor use parental moderator Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development data were analyzed. Logistic regression modeling was used relationships interest. Greater characterized by greater lower associated with increased risk significantly moderated relationship, providing protective effects against impact risk.

There exist gender disparities in heavy-episodic drinking, with male adolescents reporting elevated risk for the behavior. Variation cognitive development and exposure to antisocial peers may explain these disparities. Deviant peer association provide a social mechanism imbalance of dual systems constructs impulse control sensation-seeking mechanism. were examined as mediators relationship between drinking among sample justice-involved youth. The Pathways Desistance data analyzed, panel study 1,354 youth followed across adolescence primarily comprised minoritized Generalized structural equation modeling was used examine direct indirect effects interest determine whether significant mediation are observed. Male reported more frequent involvement (Male mean = 0.900; Female 0.552). This effect significantly mediated by deviant association, but not imbalance. Gender be explained part greater affiliation Mentoring programs targeted at aid reducing this disparity.

Aggressive behavior among adolescents has been identified as a serious worldwide problem, especially when combined with trait impulsivity. This study investigates the impact of an overlooked aspect language, namely, metaphor comprehension, on impulsivity and aggression in adolescents. A total 204 completed self-reported questionnaires assessing underwent tests familiar less comprehension. The findings reveal inverse relationships between comprehension both aggression. Regarding aggression, notable distinctions were observed correlations metaphors specific types. Additionally, was found to mediate relationship These results are elucidated context cognitive executive functions, emphasizing significance considering process capable modulating aggressive behavior.

Research has indicated that criminality may be transmitted from parent to offspring. However, there remains limited research examining risk for offspring recidivism in this regard and mechanisms underpinning relationship. The present study examined dual systems imbalance as a potential mediator using the first three waves of Pathways Desistance data. Generalized structural equation modeling was used test direct indirect effects interest. Results criminal history predicted both increased re-offending frequency. Dual significantly mediated relationship between risk, but not observed frequency outcome.
