High densities of managed honeybees (Apis mellifera) can threaten wild bees through exploitative competition, thus leading to population declines the latter. Although reviews have outlined key steps demonstrate these impacts-measuring resource overlap, changes in bee behavior, and trends-studies that comprehensively address aspects are virtually absent. We were granted access entire protected island Giannutri (2.6 km2) apiary (18 hives) located there during early phase coexistence between bees. Using as an open-air laboratory, we experimentally manipulated honeybee pressure by closing hives on selected days peak foraging period. In plants most visited pollinators, even short-term removals (11 h per day) increased nectar volume (∼60%) pollen availability (∼30%). absence honeybees, target (Anthophora dispar Bombus terrestris) became dominant insect-plant visitation network, potential apparent competition significantly decreased. Accordingly, both species intensified their activity suction time, a recognized proxy for quantity probed nectar, terrestris also shortened time searching. Transect monitoring revealed alarming ∼80% decline over 4 years, consistent with monopolization floral resources, reducing pollinators altering budget. These findings underscore risks introducing high into areas emphasize need rigorous preventive ecological assessments.

Wild and managed bees provide pollination services to crops wild plants, as well a variety of other beneficial humans. Honey are the most economically valuable pollinator worldwide. It has been calculated that 9.5% total economic value agricultural production comes from insect pollination, thus amounting just under USD 200 billion globally. More than 100 important depend on by honey bees. The latter pollinate not only wide number commercial but also many some which threatened extinction constitute genetic resource. Moreover, pollinators, play significant role in every aspect ecosystem facilitating growth trees, flowers, plants serve food shelter for large small creatures. In this paper, we describe how reduction bee populations affects various sectors, human health.

Although oceans provide critical ecosystem services and support the most abundant populations on earth, extent of damage impacting diversity strategies to protect them is disconcertingly, disproportionately, understudied. While conventional modes conservation have made strides in mitigating impacts human activities ocean ecosystems, those alone cannot completely stem tide mounting threats. Biotechnology genomic research should be harnessed developed within frameworks foster persistence viable ecosystems. This document distills results a targeted survey, Ocean Genomics Horizon Scan, which assessed opportunities bring novel genetic rescue tools marine conservation. The application of ionomics and ecological stoichiometry benefits conservation biology with necessary evolutionary relevance, allowing unresolved problems to be addressed. use enables consideration that changes in the environmental nutritional supply affect ecophysiology, behavior, health fitness individuals, influencing their interactions population functioning. resulting knowledge can help promote better restoration strategies. Ultimately, facilitate improved forecasting mitigation negative effects current global change. Here, we present theoretical background followed by biological conservation. We also propose avenues for future research. For example, larval adult pollinating insects belong different feeding guilds, larvae rely on various stoichiometrically (im)balanced foods (showing herbivory, pollinivory, detritivory or even carnivory). Therefore, ecology diversity pollinators may shaped quality food, which is required physiological development into fully functional adults. Although a stoichiometric balance during crucial pollinator fitness, focused needs Another example atmospheric CO2 increases leading nutrient dilution plant tissues, aggravating imbalances consumers challenging Earth's herbivore populations. CO2-driven food webs, ecosystems human wellbeing. However, our understanding this phenomenon minimal. These other studied solved using stoichiometry.

Abstract Despite widespread recognition of the need for long‐term monitoring pollinator abundances and pollination service provision, such studies are exceedingly rare. In this study, we assess changes in bee visitation net capture rates 73 species visiting watermelon crop flowers at 19 farms mid‐Atlantic region United States from 2005 to 2012. Over 8 years, found a 58% decline wild flowers, but no significant change honey rate. Most types bees showed similar declines both data; bumble bees, however, declined by 56% data rates. Trends services, that is, estimated pollen deposition, largely followed trends While detected large when using generalised linear mixed models (GLMMs), permutation analyses account non‐directional variation abundance were non‐significant, demonstrating challenge identifying describing highly variable populations. As far as aware, article represents one fewer than 10 published time‐series (defined >5 years data) abundance, only two conducted an agricultural setting. More needed order understand magnitude its ramifications pollination.

Despite the rising awareness of mutual benefits pollination, agricultural production, and biodiversity, Greek planning has scarcely moved toward patterns pollinator-friendly farm design models. This paper presents data from preliminary research analysis that defined generic landscape models can enhance symbiotic associations between farming production beekeeping in Greece. The main objective is to determine tailor-made contribute a portfolio actions easily apprehensible by non-technical audiences sector who want introduce biodiversity enhancements monoculture farming, fostering safer, poisonous-free environment for introduced honeybees, simultaneously helping augment their yields. A study was conducted four estates Thessaly Peloponnese involving apple citrus orchards, hemp cultivation. It combined assessment land cover classes with regard provision foraging habitat, suitability, description connectivity characteristics, emerging spatial natural corridors, patches, edges at an observation perimeter around each farm. Assessment these informed planting enrichment integration such as meadows shrub corridors. Pilot installations hives areas characteristics presented resulted 8% 12% bigger fruits 30% 50% increase total yield. We conclude enhancement are important attribute ecosystem services require understanding specific geographical parameters render operational bee pollination.

This study evaluated the habitat quality of pollinators in La Cantera Park, a recently renovated urban area Mexico City. First, we analyzed presence and preferences three main (bees, butterflies, hummingbirds) with respect to vegetation composition park. Secondly, assessed theoretical for across zones Through systematic sampling, recorded following species: four hummingbirds, 20 21 bees, among which observed strong preference native plants such as Lantana camara Salvia leucantha. While some exotic also attracted pollinators, played central role supporting diverse pollinator populations. Areas greater floral diversity higher proportion species consistently exhibited better scores, underscoring critical link between flora activity. These findings highlight importance landscape management practices that strategically combine maximize resource availability, improving parks’ capacity sustain biodiversity. The climate crisis poses a substantial risk to achieving global food security and sustainability. This chapter presents an analysis of the current level knowledge regarding agroforestry's ability promote simultaneously resilience, availability, eco-friendly land use. Agroforestry systems (AFS) are recognized as potent carbon (C) sinks, effectively reducing atmospheric dioxide (CO2) levels. It is estimated that trees in AFS can sequester 0.3-24 tC ha-1 yr-1. AFS, which occupy about 1 billion ha worldwide, have potential remove more than 10GtC yr-1 from atmosphere if fully optimized. C sequestration benefits be monetized by farmers, providing supplementary income source through credit market. In addition sequestration, provide numerous co-benefits such food, biodiversity conservation, soil erosion control, water cycling. key strategy for counteracting excessive emissions.
