The reproduction and survival of fish are often negatively affected by the construction dams other hydroelectric projects, which cut off their migratory routes. Building effective passage facilities that allow to pass through smoothly alleviates negative impact projects on ecological environment, thus protecting diversity aquatic species preventing extinction indigenous fish. Vertical slit fishways highly effective, but turbulence inside fishway pools directly affects passage. In this study, large-eddy simulation framework is used capture vortex characteristics in interior vertical pools, volume fluid method applied simulate free surface. independence grid assessed quality index, results compared with experimental acoustic Doppler velocimetry data. This work characterizes flow field using Q-criterion, Omega method, Liutex identification method. show structure pool has obvious three-dimensional varies within different chambers. analysis comparison three methods captured more consistent actual motion pattern water flow.
