Abstract “A Who’s Who of pesticides is therefore concern to us all. If we are going live so intimately with these chemicals eating and drinking them, taking them into the very marrow our bones - had better know something about their nature power.” — Rachel Carson, Silent Spring. In her day, Carson was right: plant protection products (PPP) like all other chemical substances that humans increasingly release environment without further precaution, among worst enemies today (Bruhl Zaller, 2019; Naidu et al, 2021; Tang Topping 2020). Abstract Wildlife exposures to pest controlling substances have resulted in population declines of many predatory species during the past decades. Many pesticides were subsequently classified as persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) banned on national or global scales. However, despite their risks for non-target vertebrate wildlife, PBT such anticoagulant rodenticides (ARs) are still permitted use Europe shown threaten raptors. Pyridyl-substituted imidazoquinoline, a potent fluorescent framework, is advantageous to architect multifunctional coordination networks for sensing and fabricating emergent electrical conductors. In this work, Cd(II)-based one-dimensional (1D) polymer (1D CP), [Cd(glu)2(pbiq)2(H2O)]n (1), [H2glu = glutaric acid pbiq 4-(6-(pyridin-4-yl)benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-c]quinazoline)], has been structurally confirmed by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The H-bonding π···π interactions built three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structure that strongly emits at 416 nm in acetonitrile suspension. Abstract Survival is a key demographic parameter for long‐lived bird species as it strongly influences their population dynamics and persistence. In recent decades, several studies have focused on unravelling differential patterns of survival by sex or age in populations, each group may be affected different ecological anthropogenic pressures. Vultures are highly threatened birds where age‐ especially sex‐dependent been understudied, therefore, obtaining robust estimates understanding which factors modulate them crucial developing management conservation strategies. Here, we used long‐term dataset (1990–2023) from wild colony griffon vultures Gyps fulvus central Spain capture‐mark‐recapture framework to address potential sex‐ age‐mediated apparent resighting. Resighting probabilities were lower individuals first year life than older individuals. Apparent increased with generally higher males females, particularly subadults. Disentangling whether an unequal between sexes due female‐biased dispersal true mortality necessary understand able implement adequate actions. Our research underlines the importance considering interactions analyses long‐lived, usually species.

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) have been identified as a significant factor driving declines in wildlife populations. These contaminants exhibit dual tendency to biomagnify up the food chains and persist within tissues, rendering long-lived vertebrates, such raptors, highly vulnerable their adverse effects. We assessed concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) fledglings two vulture species, Egyptian (Neophron percnopterus) griffon (Gyps fulvus), coexisting northern Spain. Vultures, currently facing severe threat with population decline exceeding 90%, represent one most critically endangered avian groups Old World. Despite this critical situation, there remains scarcity research examining intricate relationship between contaminant levels individual foraging behaviors. In parallel, we analyzed stable isotope (δ15N δ13C) fledgling's feathers prey hair determine association dietary burdens. Our findings revealed higher PCBs vultures, while pesticide remained very similar focal species. Furthermore, values δ13C, indicating diet based on intensive farming carcasses landfills, were associated PCBs. While POPs found do not raise immediate alarm, presence individuals unusually high reveals existence accessible contamination sources environment for scavengers. The increasing reliance these birds livestock due extensive farming, necessitates long-term monitoring potential effects

Mechanistic effect models are increasingly recommended as tools for refining evaluations of risk from exposure to pesticides. In the context bird and mammal assessments, DEB-TKTD have been characterizing sublethal effects at lower tiers. However, there currently no such models. Abstract Exposure of wildlife to anticoagulant rodenticides from sewer baiting and bait application is poorly understood. We analyzed residues eight in liver samples 96 great cormorants, 29 common mergansers, various fish species, coypu, different German regions. Results show that hepatic were found almost half the investigated cormorants mergansers due uptake contaminated effluent-receiving surface waters. By contrast, exposure coypu via aquatic emissions was not observed. The maximum total rodenticide concentration measured waterfowl specimens 35 ng per g based on wet weight. Second-generation active ingredients brodifacoum, difenacoum, bromadiolone detected exclusively, reflecting their estimated market share Germany continuing release into compartment. Overall, our findings reveal second-generation accumulating wild are transferred piscivorous predators food chain.
