Gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) have been explored as potential vectors for enhancing the antitumor efficacy of doxorubicin (DOX) while minimizing its cardiotoxic effects. However, impacts DOX Au-NPs on cardiac function and oxidative stress remain inadequately understood. This study aimed to explore effects in comparison free DOX, focusing markers, inflammation, ultrastructural changes, function. Male rats were divided into following four groups: control, citrate Au-NPs, Au-NPs. Cardiac was assessed using echocardiography, evaluated through Nrf2, malondialdehyde (MDA) superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels, GSH/GSSG ratio. The ultrastructure tissue by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Rats treated with exhibited significant dysfunction, indicated a reduction fractional shortening ejection fraction. Oxidative including elevated MDA levels reduced ratio, significantly worse Au-NP group. SOD decreased, indicating compromised antioxidant defenses. Citrate also caused some alterations but without other molecular alterations. failed mitigate cardiotoxicity, instead exacerbating dysfunction. possess effects, necessitating further investigation alternative nanoparticle formulations or therapeutic combinations ensure both safety cancer treatment.
