Palm
oil
production
is
a
major
source
of
income
for
millions
smallholders
in
Indonesia.
However,
actual
yield
remains
low
relation
to
the
attainable
yield.
While
emphasis
has
been
given
planting
material
as
factor
explaining
smallholder
fields,
role
agronomic
management
received
less
attention.
We
assessed
palm
productivity
independent
fields
quantified
gaps
and
their
causes
using
data
on
fresh
fruit
bunch
(FFB)
practices
collected
over
two
years
across
977
fields.
The
gap
was
estimated
each
field
difference
between

crop
model,
local
weather
field-specific
soil
age.
