Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), such as ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn's disease, are becoming a growing global problem due to the limitations of current treatments, which fail address needs patients effectively. Abstract Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a complex chronic inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract with an uncertain etiology. Currently, IBD therapy relies on induction clinical remission followed by maintenance using anti‐inflammatory drugs and immunosuppressants; however, definite cure still out scope. Established approaches are characterized adverse drug‐related side effects that can even be potentially life‐threatening. In contrast, increased interest remarkable scientific progress in targeted drug delivery systems offer promising approach to reduce systemic events, delivering therapeutic substances only inflamed tissue. All alteration barrier integrity, especially disturbed epithelial barrier, unique pattern receptors cell surface and/or oxidative stress milieu areas used as effective for controlled delivery. Oral drug administration is the preferred route for pharmaceuticals, accounting ~90% of global pharmaceutical market due to its convenience and cost-effectiveness. This study provides a comprehensive scientific technological analysis latest advances in oral dosage forms colon-targeted delivery. Utilizing patent databases, along with bibliometric bibliographical review, we compared (technology) specific application technology (colon delivery) using four search equations.
