Abstract Purpose SARS-CoV-2, the responsible virus for covid-19 pandemic, has demonstrated neurotropic properties indicated by cases presenting with auditory and vestibular system insults. The expression of ACE-2 receptors in placenta detection IgM antibodies against fetuses pregnant women suffering from render vertical transmission infection to fetus possible. Thus, our study aims examine whether, similar other viruses like CMV, SARS-CoV-2 is congenital hearing loss. Methods This a retrospective regional pediatric hospital. medical records newborns (n = 111) born mothers positive COVID-19 during pregnancy who underwent screening tests Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions (TEOAE) Automatic Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) February 2020 June 2022 were reviewed. Neonates additional aggravating factors loss excluded study. Results For period, nine found first trimester, twenty second eighty-three third trimester. TEOAEs test AABR scored PASS bilaterally all neonates tested. Conclusions Infection was not risk factor loss, studies.

This systematic review aimed improve knowledge clinical characteristics AE. We conducted a comprehensive search literature databases PubMed, Web Science, Embase, and Scopus, using various keywords descriptors such as "COVID-19," "SARS-CoV-2," "AE" in combination with AND/OR operator. included 11 patients AE, all whom were adults except for one 15-year-old girl. was more prevalent males, who accounted 81.8% patients. Patients experienced symptoms hoarseness, dysphagia, odynophagia, sore throat, dyspnea. Hoarseness may be typical Five had coexisting diseases, including hypertension, obesity, diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, intracranial tumors. Antibiotics steroids commonly administered. underwent intubation cricothyroidotomy airway management. Within the constantly changing landscape of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, emergence new variants introduces novel clinical challenges, necessitating acquisition updated insights into their impacts on various health conditions. This study investigates features and therapeutic outcomes otitis media with effusion (OME) in adults following infection Omicron variant COVID-19, context China ending its “Zero-COVID-19” policy. Conducted as a multicenter, retrospective analysis at two medical institutions Eastern from December 2022 to February 2023, included patients confirmed who were diagnosed OME within months, adhering guidelines American Academy Otolaryngology-Head Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF). Data demographics, time manifestation, associated symptoms, treatment collected. Among 68 (73 affected ears) post-Omicron infection, common symptoms cough nasal obstruction (69.1%). All reported ear fullness, 86.8% experiencing hearing loss. Tympanic bullae observed 72.6% during otoscopy, most tympanometry results showed B-type tympanogram (80.0%). An integrated strategy led an 83.6% cure rate, although 8.2% experienced relapse 2–3 months. Our findings highlight prevalent complication COVID-19 underscoring necessity for further investigation complexities. While approach proved effective, post-treatment recurrence rate underscores importance ongoing monitoring signals urgent need more comprehensive research.
