Tannins are secondary metabolites naturally present in various plants as a defense mechanism. In animal nutrition, they play dual role, acting both antinutritional factors and bioactive agents, with potential benefits nutrient metabolism product quality. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary tannin on intake digestibility, blood serum metabolite levels, growth performance, carcass characteristics, meat quality small ruminants. Ninety-seven studies were included this meta-analysis. The tannins analyzed using random-effects model determine weighted mean difference between treatments control (without tannins). Publication bias heterogeneity explored, meta-regression subgroup analyses performed. results indicated that significantly increased dry matter, crude protein, nitrogen (N), fecal N, fatty acids (FA), such C18:2 ω6, C18:3 ω3, C20:4 C20:5 total ω3 ω6 FA, polyunsaturated FA (PUFA). However, NH3-N, urinary urea nitrogen, cold weight, subcutaneous fat thickness, drip loss, digestibility decreased. conclusion, ruminants did not affect productivity antioxidative status, but mainly modified improved acid profile meat.

This study was conducted to compare the effects of hydrolysable versus condensed tannins on growth performance, nutrient digestion, and rumen fermentation in goats. A total 27 Liaoning cashmere goats with similar initial body weights were randomly distributed into three groups: a basal diet, diet +0.5% tannic acid (hydrolysable tannin, HT), or quebracho tannin (condensed CT), respectively. Compared control group, HT showed decreased (p < 0.05) feed intake, while CT an increased intake weight gain. Digestibility dry matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, fiber did not differ > among groups. The group lower pH acetic concentration 0.05), decrease abundances Verrucomicrobia Methanobrevibacter. Supplementation levels dihydrouracil, xanthosine, alpha-D-mannose, L-tryptophan, these metabolites. In conclusion, this suggested that responses ruminal microbiota metabolite profiles type varied, displayed more positive effect performance than when supplemented at same level diets.

Sustainable intensification involves maintaining ecosystem balance and increasing productivity per animal unit area. Phytogenic additives can be used as an alternative to achieve sustainable intensification. Tannins are phenolic compounds present in plants that classified according their chemical structure into hydrolyzable condensed compounds. When added ruminant diets, tannins exert effects on rumen fermentation, such a reduction protein degradation enteric methane production of dry matter ingested, may also improve weight gain. The advantage this mechanism is it increases dietary utilization, reduces nitrogen excretion urine, nitrous oxide emissions. However, the positive these nutritional require further investigation. Therefore, objective review demonstrate results hitherto known use nutrition. result both negative effects, depending sources doses administered.

Abstract The study investigated how the concentration and composition of purified tannin extracts, at various inclusion rates, affect ruminal in vitro fermentation parameters. Tannin extracts were isolated from four different forage species: birdsfoot trefoil ( Lotus corniculatus) , sulla (Hedysarum coronarium), big (Lotus pedunculatus), salad burnet Sanguisorba minor ). Plants by Sephadex LH-20 gel chromatography analyzed UPLC–ESI–MS/MS. results showed a large variation among species terms structural features. dominated hydrolysable tannins, comprising mainly ellagitannins. derived contained predominantly proanthocyanidins (PA), primarily composed prodelphinidins with high mean degree polymerisation (mDP). Birdsfoot comprised procyanidin-rich PAs low mDP. To determine whether combined presence tannins flavonoid together lead to synergistic or antagonistic effects, incubated both without rutin concentrations 10, 20, 30 g/kg DM, using base substrate perennial ryegrass Lolium perenne control). In general, all decreased methane (CH 4 ) production compared control, while no significant effect was observed on gas (GP) CH production, neither pure, nor simultaneous tannins. highest reduction (15%, DM) but this also supplemented concomitant GP (11%) indicating feed digestibility. reduced up 12% significantly reducing GP, importance fermentation.
