Catalytic
transfer
hydrogenation
(CTH)
has
gained
attention
as
a
potentially
more
sustainable
process
than
conventional
with
H
2
gas.In
this
process,
hydrogen
is
supplied
in
situ
from
donor
molecule
without
the
need
for
high-pressure
.We
developed
conceptual
commercial
of
furfural
into
furfuryl
alcohol
and
performed
techno-economic
greenhouse
gas
analyses
aiming
to
identify
bottlenecks
guide
future
research
field.Two
compounds
were
considered:
isopropanol
ethanol.Total
capital
investment
varies
between
US$24.8-33.3
million
these
processes,
minimum
selling
price
(MSP)
below
market
US$1.52/kgonly
ethanol
donor.The
main
impact
on
profitability
dehydrogenated
co-product.Thus,
low-cost
donors
that
generate
high-value
dehydrogenation
products
are
required

competitive
hydrogenation.In
addition,
utilizing

GHG

emissions
