Artemisinin is a natural bioactive sesquiterpene lactone containing an unusual endoperoxide 1, 2, 4-trioxane ring. It derived from the herbal medicinal plant Artemisia annua and best known for its use in treatment of malaria. However, recent studies also indicate potential artemisinin related compounds, commonly referred to as artemisinins, combating viral infections, inflammation certain cancers. Moreover, different modes action artemisinins make these compounds potentially relevant challenges world faces COVID-19 pandemic. Initial positive effects or spp. extracts combat SARS-CoV-2 infection symptoms WHO-supervised clinical on are now progress. implementing multiple new uses will require effective solutions boost production, either by enhancing synthesis A. itself through biotechnological engineering alternative biosynthesis platforms. Because this renewed interest derivatives, here we review action, application diseases including COVID-19, future options production.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Qingjin Yiqi granules (QJYQ) on post‐COVID‐19 condition (PCC). Method Patients who met inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to two groups, QJYQ group received combined with standard rehabilitation treatments (SRTs) control only SRTs. The treatment course was 14 days. primary outcomes modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) scale Borg scale, while secondary included symptoms score 6‐minute walking distance (6MWD). outcome incidence adverse events. Results A total 388 patients PCC enrolled ( n = 194) 194). Compared controls, mMRC improved in group, which better than that [β (95%CI): –0.626 (–1.101, –0.151), p 0.010]. significant improvement also observed compared –0.395(–0.744, –0.046), 0.026]. There no statistically difference 6MWD between groups 0.293, 0.724). No treatment‐related events either group. Conclusions can bring benefits PCC, mainly breathlessness fatigue.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused a substantial number of deaths around the world, making it serious and pressing public health hazard. Phytochemicals could thus provide rich source potent safer anti-SARS-CoV-2 drugs. absence approved treatments or vaccinations continues to be an issue, forcing creation new medicines. Computer-aided drug design helped speed up research development process by decreasing costs time. Natural compounds like terpenoids, alkaloids, polyphenols, flavonoid derivatives have perfect impact against viral replication facilitate future studies in novel discovery. This would more effective if collaboration took place between governments, researchers, clinicians, traditional medicine practitioners' safe therapeutic research. Through computational approach, this study aims contribute treatment methods examining mechanisms relating binding subsequent inhibition SARS-CoV-2 ribonucleic acid (RNA)-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp).

In China, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely used for coronavirus infectious disease 2019 (COVID-19) prevention, treatment, and recovery played a part in the battle against disease. A variety of TCM treatments have recommended different stages COVID-19. But, to best our knowledge, comprehensive database storing organizing anti-COVID is still lacking. Herein, we developed TCM2COVID, manually curated resource formulas, natural products (NPs), herbs. The current version TCM2COVID (1) documents over 280 formulas (including 300 herbs) with detailed clinical evidence therapeutic mechanism information; (2) records 80 NPs potential mechanisms; (3) launches useful web server querying, analyzing visualizing documented similar those supplied by user (formula similarity analysis). summary, TCM2COVD provides user-friendly practical platform documenting, browsing treatments, will help development elucidation mechanisms action new therapies support fight COVID-19 epidemic. freely available at http://zhangy-lab.cn/tcm2covid/.

Combination drugs have been used for several diseases many years since they produce better therapeutic effects. However, it is still a challenge to discover candidates form combination drug. This study aimed investigate whether using comprehensive in silico approach identify novel from Chinese herbal formula an appropriate and creative strategy. We, therefore, Toujie Quwen Granules the main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 as example. We first molecular docking components which may inhibit Mpro. Baicalein (HQA004) most favorable inhibitory ligand. also identified ligand other component, cubebin (CHA008), act support proposed HQA004 inhibitor. Molecular dynamics simulations were then performed further elucidate possible mechanism inhibition by synergistic bioactivity conferred CHA008. bound strongly at active site that CHA008 enhanced contacts between dynamically interacted multiple sites, continued enhance stability despite diffusion distant site. acted inhibitor, served its effects via allosteric two sites. Additionally, our wavelet analysis showed result binding, structure Mpro observed more subtle changes, demonstrating inter-residue within disrupted work highlighted different herbs crosstalk ligands protein target, well revealed multi-ligand docking, simulation, free energy calculations remedy innovative pathway.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used for centuries to prevent and treat a variety of illnesses, its popularity is increasing worldwide. However, the clinical applications natural active components in TCM are hindered by poor solubility low bioavailability these compounds. To address issues, self-assembly nanostrategy (CSAN) being developed. Many possess properties, allowing them form nanoparticles (NPs) through various noncovalent forces. Self-assembled NPs (SANs) also present decoctions, they closely linked therapeutic effects remedies. SAN gaining nano research field due simplicity, eco-friendliness, enhanced biodegradability biocompatibility compared traditional preparation methods. The ingredients from that exhibit antitumour or combined with other drugs generated considerable interest cancer therapeutics. This paper provides review principles forms CSAN, as well an overview recent reports on can be self-assembly. Additionally, application CSAN diseases summarized, finally, concluding summary thoughts proposed. We strongly believe potential offer fresh strategies perspectives modernization TCM.

The discovery of effective constituents traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is an important approach in new drug development. Several well-known drugs, such as artemisinin, berberine, and ephedrine have been developed using this approach. However, the efficacy safety TCM, two key issues for development based on TCM clinical experience, remain unclear worldwide. strategy relevant most step determining safety, which still a scientific problem that restricts drugs. Furthermore, formulas used drugs address specific syndrome ( Zheng ), complexity formula vagueness make identification related to effectiveness challenging.
