Introduction Down syndrome (DS) is linked to unique hematopoietic characteristics that affect complete blood count (CBC) parameters. Accurate reference ranges are essential for proper CBC interpretation in this population. Despite recent advancements, treatment of cytopenia due to bone marrow failures (BMF) and myeloid neoplasms remains challenging. Androgens promote renewal maturation blood cells may be beneficial in these forms. Here we report a systematic review androgens use as single agent hematologic conditions. Forty-five studies, mainly retrospective with various androgen types doses, were included: 12 on acquired aplastic anemia (AA), 11 inherited BMF, 17 myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), 7 myelofibrosis. Responses ranged from 50 70% 40–50% AA MDS, while very limited evidence emerged for In AA, response was associated presence non-severe disease; MDS more effective thrombocytopenia or mild moderate anemia, whilst benefit observed transfusion dependent anemia.
