Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) using barrier membranes is a common clinical approach for treating periodontitis-induced alveolar bone loss. However, conventional GTR lack antibacterial and osteoinductive properties, limiting their effectiveness. Piezoelectric materials, which generate electrical outputs under chewing forces, offer bone-regenerative potential due to oppositely charged surfaces. Inspired by this, piezoelectric Janus membrane was developed dual-function therapy. Biodegradable poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) PLLA/gelatin were electrospun, annealed, polarized create the A-P(+)/PG(-) membrane. Notably, in this membrane, outer surface of PLLA side (A-P(+)) carries positive charges positioned toward gingival kill bacteria via charge interactions; inner PG (PG(-)) holds negative faces defect, promoting growth through immunomodulation enhanced mineralization. In mouse model periodontitis, demonstrated dual functionality, effectively reducing inflammation, inhibiting resorption.
