The sustainable synthesis of value-added products through the use lignocellulosic materials stands out as one main emerging routes in circular bioeconomy transition. In this view, present study investigated valorisation industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) biomass residues (HBRs) such hurds (HH) and a mix leaves inflorescences (Mix) together with cheese whey (CW) semi-continuous acidogenic co-fermentation process (co-AF), aiming to maximise volatile fatty acid (VFA) production. Preliminary batch co-AF tests showed an almost similar net VFA production 5212 5106 mg acetic equivalent per litre (HAc/L) for Mix HH, respectively, after 4 days initial pH 8.50. Based on these results, fed both HBRs (HH + Mix) CW was implemented. Different conditions were tested by removing or increasing amount terms VS (i.e., 2 times) evaluate performance process. increase resulted proportional up 3115 HAc/L), experimental 40% higher than calculated one, thereby pointing towards potential synergy between CW.

This study evaluated the possibility of combining methane oxidizing bacteria (MOB) with sulfur (SOB) to enable utilization sulfide-rich biogas for microbial protein production. For this purpose, a MOB-SOB mixed-culture enriched by feeding both and sulfide was benchmarked against an enrichment solely MOB. Different CH4:O2 ratios, starting pH values, levels nitrogen sources were tested two enrichments. The culture gave promising results in terms biomass yield (up 0.07 ± 0.01 g VSS/g CH4-COD) content 73 5% VSS) at 1500 ppm equivalent H2S. latter able grow also under acidic (5.8–7.0), but as inhibited outside optimal ratio 2:3. obtained show capability mixed-cultures directly upcycle into potentially suited feed, food or biobased product applications.

The request for alternative sources of energy has led to evaluating untapped routes production, such as using abundant and low-cost waste materials, e.g., lignocellulosic wastes, the substrate biological processes aimed at biofuel production. This study focused on peanut shells (PS) valorisation via anaerobic digestion (AD). Two emerging pretreatments, i.e., organosolv ultrasounds, were investigated unlock full AD potential PS. impact a substrate-to-solvent ratio in pretreatment was (i.e., 1:5 vs. 1:10 1:20). Different exposure times tested ultrasound pretreatment, corresponding applied densities 30,000, 12,000, 6000 kJ/kg VS, respectively. Organosolv achieved maximal polyphenol solubilisation, 4.90 mg/g TS, when increasing ratio, whereas methane production did not benefit from being comparable with that raw PS most 55.0 mL CH4/g VS).
