Human exposure to acute and chronic levels of heavy metal ions are linked with various health issues, including reduced children’s intelligence quotients, developmental challenges, cancers, hypertension, immune system compromises, cytotoxicity, oxidative cellular damage, neurological disorders, among other challenges. The potential environmental HMI contaminations, the biomagnification along food chains, associated risk factors on public safety a global concern top priority. Hence, developing low-cost analytical protocols capable rapid, selective, sensitive, accurate detection in samples consumable products is interest. Conventional flame atomic absorption spectroscopy, graphite furnace emission inductively coupled plasma–optical plasma–mass X-ray diffractometry, fluorescence have been well-developed for HMIs trace element analysis excellent but varying degrees sensitivity, selectivity, accuracy. In addition high instrumental running maintenance costs specialized personnel training, these instruments not portable, limiting their practicality on-demand, situ, field study, or point-of-need detection. Increases use electrochemical colorimetric techniques ion detections arise because portable instrumentation, sensitivity cost-effectiveness, small size requirements, rapidity, visual nanosensors that facilitate detections. This review highlights new approach low-cost, ecosystems (soil, water, air) products. Specifically, recent advances smartphone-operated screen-printed electrodes (SPEs), plastic chip SPES, carbon fiber paper-based addition, requirements. provides advantages optical over conventional methods analyses. further in-depth coverage arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), mercury (Hg), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn) ecosystem, emphasis biological samples. discusses challenges current protocol It insight into future directions

Abstract Although several food‐related fields have yet to fully grasp the speed and breadth of fourth industrial revolution (also known as Industry 4.0), growing literature from other sectors shows that 5.0 (referring fifth revolution) is already underway. Food 4.0 has been characterized by fusion physical, digital, biological advances in food science technology, whereas future could be seen a more holistic, multidisciplinary, multidimensional approach. This review will focus on identifying potential enabling technologies harnessed shape coming years. We state‐of‐the‐art studies use innovative various agriculture applications over last 5 In addition, opportunities challenges highlighted, directions conclusions drawn. Preliminary evidence suggests outcome an evolutionary process not revolution, often claimed. Our results show regenerative and/or conversational artificial intelligence, Internet Everything, miniaturized nanosensors, 4D printing beyond, cobots advanced drones, edge computing, redactable blockchain, metaverse immersive techniques, cyber‐physical systems, digital twins, sixth‐generation wireless beyond are likely among main driving 5.0. framework, vision, value becoming popular research topics academic fields, agri‐food sector just started embrace some aspects dimensions

ABSTRACT Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have emerged as promising nanomaterials due to their unique optical properties, excellent biocompatibility, and cost‐effectiveness. This review highlights recent advances in CQD‐based composite materials applications fluorescence detection, particularly food safety. Combining CQDs with diverse enhances performance, stability, selectivity, enabling the sensitive detection of various contaminants. CQD composites offer significant improvements over conventional methods, including lower limits, faster response times, broader applicability. Key areas focus include pesticide residues, veterinary drug heavy metal ions, pathogenic bacteria complex matrices. Advanced doping hybridization strategies, such heteroatom incorporation, further optimize chemical properties. These innovations address critical challenges safety monitoring, paving way for more effective accessible technologies. Future developments are expected expand applications, ensuring enhanced quality public health protection.
