Canada is warming at double the rate of global average caused in part to a fast-growing population and large land transformations, where urban surfaces contribute significantly heat island (UHI) phenomenon. The federal government released strengthened climate plan 2020, which emphasizes using nature-based solutions (NBSs) combat effects UHI Here, two NBSs techniques are reviewed analysed: increasing surface greenery/vegetation (ISG) reflectivity (ISR). Policymakers have challenge selecting appropriate meet wide range objectives within environment Canadian-specific knowledge how can perform various scales lacking. As such, this state-of-the-art review intends provide snapshot current understanding benefits risks associated with implantation spaces as well used model, evaluate potential effectiveness under evolving conditions. Thus, if be adopted mitigate extreme summertime temperatures Canadian municipalities, an integrated, comprehensive analysis their contributions needed. developing methods quantify NBSs’ performance tools for effective implementation required.

Increased urban air temperature considerably affects the health, comfort and consequently quality of life in spaces. Urban design planning studies, therefore, face an increasing challenge as they aim to improve Outdoor Thermal Comfort (OTC) microclimate conditions environments. Analysing OTC is more challenging when compared indoor thermal since a wider range interrelated parameters exists outdoor Therefore, this research aims classify studies that investigate by conducting comprehensive review based on key metrics such approaches taken, methodologies spatial temporal scales. By extracting findings, forms integrated framework these presents thorough view concept context climate-sensitive studies. Furthermore, elaborates main two groups affecting including environmental human-based parameters. Exploring intricate inter-relationships clarifies their contribution OTC. Results study help architects planners strategies support decision-making process providing perspective about different aspects Finally, recommendations for future are outlined.

Global temperatures have continued to rise for decades, partly due human-caused greenhouse gas emissions and subsequent urban heat island (UHI) effects. This current research examines the benefits of greenery by studying impact green roofs walls a building on thermal behavior transfer in warm humid climate. simulation study discusses importance greening systems improving comfort minimizing causes UHI assessing an integrated design. Using software DesignBuilder, significance systems, roofs, enhancing reducing factors that contribute is investigated. The results are based building’s energy usage hot regions while featuring walls. indicate considerable positive environment tropical climates. Air temperature, radiant humidity, solar gain decreased greening. total consumption district cooling demand buildings with reduced 10.5% 13%, respectively. substantially improve air quality efficiency. Thus, present study‘s findings can benefit designers dwellers devising strategies establishing spaces congested environments integrating technologies into built environments.

• Urban tree canopy cover is a promising solution for mitigating heat island. Data-driven guidance on selection and planting locations still limited. Four research priorities are proposed, requiring collaborative effort. Cross-climate morphological physiological characteristics desired. Integration with atmospheric boundary layer models suggested.
